Fuel Prices Decrease for Third Consecutive Day, Petrol at Rs 81.99/L

Petrol and diesel prices witnessed a dip for the third consecutive day on Saturday. Petrol price in Delhi decreased by Rs 0.39 at Rs 81.99 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 75.36 per litre (fall of Rs 0.12).

Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai were at Rs 87.46 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.38) and Rs 79.00 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.13), respectively.

Russian Woman Charged For Meddling in 2018 US Election

The US accused a Russian woman on Friday of helping oversee the finances of a sweeping, secretive effort to sway American public opinion through social media in the first federal case alleging foreign interference in the 2018 midterm elections.

The criminal complaint against Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova alleges that Russians are using some of the same techniques to influence US politics as they relied on ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Counting Begins for J&K Municipal Polls Amid Heavy Security

The counting of votes for the recently concluded municipal polls began in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday amid heavy security. Poll officials said that the counting started at 8 am, and all the results would be declared later in the day.

The municipal elections that took place in the state after 13 years, were held in four phases, covering 79 municipal bodies with an electorate of about 17 lakh electors.

White House 'Saddened' to Hear of Khashoggi's Death

The White House said on Saturday that it was "saddened" to hear the confirmation of Saudi Arabia's dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi's death, but made no mention of action against the major US ally.

Saudi Arabia on Saturday said Khashoggi, 60, was killed inside its consulate in Istanbul after "discussions" at the consulate devolved into an altercation, without disclosing any details on the whereabouts of his body.

Islamic State Releases Six of 27 Druze Hostages Held in Syria

Syrian opposition activists say the Islamic State group has released two women and four children they had been holding since July in an exchange with the government.

The women and children were among 30 people kidnapped by IS in the southern province of Sweida in July when they carried out a raid that left more than 200 people dead.

Two Killed in Durga Puja Clashes in UP

Two minors were killed and one woman was seriously injured in accidents and violent clashes reported from many parts of Uttar Pradesh during the idol immersion procession of Goddess Durga, police said on Saturday.

At least a dozen persons have been injured in similar incidents, a government official told IANS, adding that most of the violence was reported from Agra, Kaushambi and Sultanpur.

J&K Municipal Polls Latest Results: INC Wins in Six Wards, BJP Secures Four

The results for the recently concluded municipal polls in Jammu and Kashmir have started coming in.

As per the latest reports, the INC has won from the Ganie Mohalla, Khanpora, Wahadatpora, Bazar Mohalla, Karipora and Kharpora municipal wards.

The BJP, meanwhile, secured the Narispora, Housing Colony Ompora, Dobi Mohalla and Mohanpora municipal wards in Budgam.

Six Killed in Car Accident in Odisha

Six persons, including three women and a minor girl, were killed after a car hit a motor-cycle and fell into a water body in Pipili area of Odisha's Puri district, the police said.

The incident occurred near Uttara on Puri-Bhubaneswar highway on Friday night.

IUML Kerala Legislator Abdul Razack Dies

PB Abdul Razack, a senior IUML legislator from Kerala, died at a private hospital in Kasargode on Saturday, party sources said. He was 63.

Razack, a two-time legislator representing the state's northern most constituency of Manjeswaram, that borders Karnataka, was in the hospital for the past few days.

Delhi Court Frames Charges Against RK Pachauri

Delhi's Saket court on Saturday framed charges against environmentalist RK Pachauri in a sexual harrassment case.

The environmentalist, in court, sought a speedy trial. “My age is 78, please expedite the matter,” he said.

Pachauri, the former director general of The Energy and Resources Institute, or TERI, was accused of systematically harassing women employed at the institute.

Amnesty Says Saudi Probe into Khashoggi Killing 'Questionable'

Amnesty International on Saturday said that the “impartiality” of a Saudi investigation into the killing of Jamal Khashoggi would remain in question after authorities in the kingdom said the journalist died after a fight in the consulate in Istanbul.

The rights groups have been concerned of a “whitewash” in the investigation, an Amnesty official said.

The Sri Lankan PM arrived in New Delhi on Thursday in what is his fifth visit to India since assuming office in 2015.

Kidnapped Indian-origin Tanzanian Billionaire Freed

Indian-origin Tanzanian billionaire Mohammed Dewji, who was captured by gunmen outside a gym here nine days ago, is back home safe after his kidnappers freed him, the police said.

Dewji, 43-year-old CEO of the METL Group family conglomerate, was kidnapped by unknown men on 11 October while he was going for his early morning workout in Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

Senior Advocate Maninder Singh Resigns As ASG

Senior counsel Maninder Singh has resigned as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) after serving as a government counsel for over four years.

With Singh stepping down, the strength of the government lawyers at the ASG level was reduced to four – Pinki Anand, Atmaran Nadkarni, Aman Lekhi and Vikranjit Banerjee.

Prior to Singh, senior counsel P.S. Narasimha had resigned as Additional Solicitor General. Another ASG Sandeep Sethi had quit earlier in 2018.

Indian National Congress (INC) on Saturday won all 13 wards of Leh Municipal Committee. Earlier, BJP secured the Narispora, Housing Colony Ompora, Dobi Mohalla and Mohanpora municipal wards in Budgam.

Meanwhile, counting process for the J&K civic polls are still underway.

Partial Selection of Candidates for Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram Assembly Elections Complete: JP Nadda

Health Minister JP Nadda said that the candidates for 77 seats out of 90 in the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections have been decided. “Former IAS officer OP Chaudhary will be contesting from Chhattisgarh's Kharsia constituency,” Nadda said in a statement to ANI.

“For the upcoming Telangana Assembly polls candidates for 38 seats have been decided and for Mizoram Assembly polls candidates for 13 seats have been decided,” Nadda added.
