Death Toll in Cyclone Titli Rises to 57

Till Friday, a total of 57 people have died, and 57,131 houses damaged due to Cyclone Titli, and subsequent floods and landslide in Odisha, ANI reported quoting the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) of the state.

Fuel Prices Decrease in Delhi and Mumbai

Petrol and diesel prices decreased in Delhi and Mumbai on Friday.

The price of petrol in Delhi was Rs 82.38 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.24) and diesel at Rs 75.48 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.10), respectively.

Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai were Rs 87.84 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.24) and Rs 79.13 per litre (decrease by Rs 0.11), respectively.

Rupee Weakens 3 Paise, Opens at Rs 73.64/Dollar

Continuing its slide, the rupee weakened by 3 paise to 73.64 against the US dollar Friday due to increased demand for the American currency from importers.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the rupee opened lower at 73.62 and slipped further to 73.64 against the dollar, showing a fall of 3 paise.

Equity Benchmarks Open Lower, Sensex at 34,288 Points

Indian equity benchmarks opened with steep losses dragged by Reliance Industries after it announced second quarter earnings post market hours on Wednesday.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell as much as 1.4 percent or 491 points to 34,288 and the NSE Nifty 50 Index dropped 1.4 percent or 148 points to 10,304.

China's GDP Grows 6.7% in First 3 Quarters

China's gross domestic product (GDP) grew 6.7 per cent year on year in the first three quarters of 2018 to about 65.09 trillion yuan ($9 trillion), data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Friday.

The growth was in line with market expectations and higher than the government's annual growth target of around 6.5 per cent, reports Xinhua news agency.

In the third quarter, China's GDP rose 6.5 per cent from a year ago, compared to a 6.7 per cent increase in the second quarter, the NBS said in a statement.

2 Terrorists Killed In Encounter In J&K’s Baramulla

Two militants were Friday killed by security forces in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

The militants, travelling in a car, were asked to stop at Kraalhaar but they opened fire at the security personnel, a police official said adding, that the duo was killed in retaliatory fire.

Some arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene, he said. Further details were awaited.

Casting Agent Mukesh Chhabra Suspended On Sexual Harassment Charges

Fox Star Studios on Friday suspended Mukesh Chhabra, Bollywood's popular casting agent, from his directorial debut "Kizie Aur Manny" as he has been accused of sexual harassment.

"As a responsible organisation, Star India takes any allegation of sexual harassment of women at workplace very seriously. Hence, Fox Star Studios has suspended the services of Mukesh Chhabra, director of our film 'Kizie Aur Manny'" said a post on the official Fox Star Hindi Twitter handle.

Chhabra has been known for casting films like "Gangs Of Wasseypur", "Kai Po Che", "D-Day" and "Highway".

Court Rejects Ashish Pandey's Bail Plea

Delhi's Patiala House Court on Friday dismissed the bail plea of Ashish Pandey and sent him to judicial custody till Monday, 22 October.

He was seen brandishing a gun outside hotel Hyatt Regency on 14 October.

Big B to Pay off Loans of over 850 up Farmers

Actor Amitabh Bachchan on Friday said over 850 farmers from Uttar Pradesh have been identified, and their loans to the tune of Rs 5.5 crore will be taken care of.

"A list of over 850 farmers from Uttar Pradesh have been identified and their loans amounting to over 5.5 crore shall be taken care of... The assistance from the Bank in question assists in its execution and its benevolence," the 76-year-old actor posted on his blog.

He had recently, through the government agencies, identified 44 families who had lost their loved ones - martyrs who gave up their lives for the country - and distributed cash to them as a gesture.

3 Killed in Blast at Afghan Poll Candidate's Office

At least three people were killed on Friday in a blast targeting the office of a female parliamentary candidate in Afghanistan's Balkh province, the police said.

The blast took place at the office of Parisa Shams Sadat in Zari district of the province, provincial police spokesman Shir Jan Durani was cited as saying by Xinhua news agency.

All the victims were civilians. Villagers said the number of casualties was higher than reported.

Over 50 Feared Dead in Train Accident Near Amritsar's Jora Phatak

A major train accident took place near Amritsar’s Jora Phatak on Friday, reportedly leading to multiple deaths and injuries.

Punjab Police said that at least 50 people were killed in the mishap as a train ran into a burning effigy of Ravana, as people near it were celebrating Dussehra.

"There are more than 50 casualties. We are evacuating people... injured taken to the hospital", ANI quoted Punjab Police as saying.
