Boeing Acknowledges Defects in 737 Max Simulator Software
Boeing acknowledged today that it had to correct defects in its flight simulator software used to train pilots to fly the 737 MAX, the aircraft model involved in two deadly crashes that killed 346 people.
"Boeing has made corrections to the 737 MAX simulator software and has provided additional information to device operators to ensure that the simulator experience is representative across different flight conditions," the company said in a statement.

A BSF officer was injured in the cross-border shelling by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said on Sunday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Satyapal Singh suffered splinter injuries when a mortar shell exploded near him while manning a forward post at Baloni in Krishna Ghati sector on Friday night, they said.
The officials said the officer was shifted to the military hospital and his condition was "stable".

Four Killed While Cleaning Water Pumping Station in Gujarat
Four sanitation workers died after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a storm water pumping station in Gujarat's Ahmedabad city, a police official said on Sunday, 19 May.
The mishap took place in Odhav locality late Saturday night when a worker went into the well of the civic-run Ambikanagar pumping station and fell unconscious after inhaling a toxic gas, he said.
Three other labourers then rushed in to help him, but they also inhaled the gas and died on the spot, the official at Odhav police station said.

7 French Fighter Jets Make Emergency Landing in Indonesia
Poor weather has forced seven French navy fighter jets taking part in a training exercise to make emergency landings in northern Indonesia.
Local air force base commander Col. Hendro Arief says the crews of seven Dassault Rafale combat planes landed safely at Sultan Iskandar Muda air force base in Aceh province on Saturday, 90 minutes after taking off from their aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in the Indian Ocean.

2 Teens Die as Car Overturns in Rajasthan
Two teenagers were killed and three others injured when a car in which they were travelling overturned in Sirohi district of Rajasthan on Sunday, 19 May, police said.
The incident took place on Abu road under Pindwara police station. The deceased have been identified as Ami Soni (14) and her cousin, Dev Goswami (14), the police said.
The bodies have been handed over to the family after post-mortem, the police added.

Huawei Will Not Bow to US Pressure: Founder
Chinese telecom giant Huawei is ready to deal with Washington's crackdown and will reduce its reliance on US components, its founder told Japanese media.
President Donald Trump effectively barred Huawei from the US market on Wednesday and added it to a list which would restrict US sales to the firm amid an escalating trade war with Beijing.
"We have already been preparing for this," Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei told a group of Japanese journalists Saturday in his first interview since Trump's move.
Ren said Huawei would continue to develop its own components to reduce its dependence on outside suppliers.

Bodies of Two Indian Mountaineers Recovered from Mt Kanchenjunga
The bodies of two Indian mountaineers, who died in Nepal due to high altitude sickness near the summit of Mount Kanchenjunga during an expedition to the world's third tallest peak, have been recovered and flown to Kathmandu, officials said in Kathmandu on Sunday, 19 May.
Biplab Baidya (48) and Kuntal Karar (46) died Wednesday night above Camp IV after they were unable to continue their descent from near the 8,586-metre peak due to hypothermia and snowblindness.
The bodies of Baidya and Kanrar were first carried by rescuers from the mountain's highest camp to near the base camp and then flown to Kathmandu in a helicopter.

Cattle Smuggling Bids Foiled in J&K, 12 Held
A dozen separate cattle smuggling attempts were foiled in Jammu and Kashmir's Raman, Udhampur and Poonch districts, police said on Sunday.
Twelve drivers were arrested and 185 animals were rescued, they added.
Five trucks, heading for Kashmir and allegedly loaded with 80 animals, were intercepted at Batote and Chanderkote areas of Ramban district Saturday evening, a police official said. He said the animals were rescued and the five drivers arrested.

Rohtang Pass Reopens After 6 Months
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday opened the Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul and Spiti valley, after a gap of six months.
A large number of Lahaul residents, living in the Kullu-Manali area had a sigh of relief as one has to travel through the Rohtang Pass to commute between Kullu and Lahaul valley.
Meanwhile, the district administration has restricted the movement of tourist vehicles towards the Rohtang Pass for safety reasons. They have been allowed to go up to Gulaba.

Coltan Mine Collapse Kills Nine in Burundi: Official
Nine miners were killed and another 20 injured when an unregulated coltan mine collapsed following torrential rains in northern Burundi, an official and witnesses said on Sunday.
The disaster occurred on Friday near the town of Kabarore, the sources said.
Four of the injured are in serious condition, a local official told AFP, requesting anonymity. They were transported to local hospitals, the official said.

Bangladeshi Man to Return Home After 23 Years
A mentally challenged Bangladeshi, who had crossed over to India accidentally over two decades ago, finally met his family in a jail in Tezpur, Assam on Sunday, officials told PTI.
Azbdar Peada (55) had accidentally crossed over to India from Bangladesh 23 years ago, they said.
Peada is fit now and he would leave for his country next month, the officials of Tezpur Central jail said.
Gunmen Kill 19 at Fish Market in Northeast Congo
At least 19 people were killed when gunmen attacked a fish market in northeast Democratic Republic of Congo near Lake Albert, local officials said on Sunday.
No group has claimed responsibility, but the region around Ituri province has been hit in the past by intercommunal violence between militias from the Hema and Lendu communities.
"Nineteen corpses were found in the village of Tara on the edge of Lake Albert, and eight others were wounded," said Pilo Mulindo, a local community leader in Djugu territory.
"The attack happened on Wednesday when armed bandits attacked a group gathered on the beach to set up a market," the official said.

India, Singapore Conduct Naval Drill in South China Sea
The navies of India and Singapore conducted their bilateral naval drill in the South China Sea on Sunday, the Navy said. The bilateral naval drill will be conducted till 22 May.
Indian Navy ships Kolkata and Shakti took part in the bilateral naval exercise with Singapore, along with long range maritime patrol aircraft Poseidon-8I (P8I).
The Singapore side is to be represented by RSN ships Steadfast and Valiant, maritime patrol aircraft Fokker-50 (F-50) and F-16 fighter aircraft.

The Imran Khan-led Pakistan government is actively considering appointing a National Security Advisor to revive backchannel diplomacy with India to iron out issues hindering the resumption of peace talks between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, official sources said on Sunday, 19 May.
Since assuming the office in August last year, Prime Minister Imran Khan repeatedly reached out to India for the resumption of peace talks on all outstanding issues.

Blast Injures South African Tourists Near Egypt's Giza Pyramids

A rocket crashed Sunday night in the Iraqi capital's heavily fortified Green Zone, landing less than a mile from the sprawling US Embassy, an Iraqi military spokesman said.
The apparent attack, which Iraq's state-run news agency said did not cause any casualties, came amid heightened tensions across the Persian Gulf, after the White House ordered warships and bombers to the region earlier this month to counter an alleged, unexplained threat from Iran.
