Terrorists Hurl Grenade at CRPF in Newa

Terrorists hurled a grenade at the camp of 183 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Newa earlier on 18 September. The grenade didn't explode, CRPF retailiated, reported ANI. One CRPF personnel sustained a bullet injury and has been admitted to hospital.

Imran Khan Govt Auctions 70 Luxury Cars as Part of Austerity Drive

The cash-strapped Pakistan government on Monday, 17 September, sold 70 cars "above their market price" as it started the process of auctioning 102 luxury vehicles of the PM House under Prime Minister Imran Khan's austerity drive, a senior minister said.

Apart from luxury cars, the government, facing huge debts and liabilities, plans to auction eight buffaloes kept by deposed and jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House for his "gastronomic requirements".

Delhi Man Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Minor

A man has been arrested from Seemapuri area in Delhi for sexually assaulting a minor girl and allegedly inserting a foreign object in her private parts Case registered under POCSO Act, ANI reported.

Following the assault, the girl went undergo an operation for the injuries she sustained. She is now said to be stable, ANI added.

Dalit Youth Beaten to Death in Bihar

A Dalit youth was bludgeoned to death by a mob on suspicion of theft in Bihar's Nawada district, police said on Tuesday. The victim, Rupan Manjhi, who was in his late 20s, was beaten to death with bamboo sticks, bricks and iron rods on Monday night, police told IANS.

According to police officials, a group of four thieves entered a house but after the family raised an alarm three of the thieves fled while one was caught by the villagers and beaten to death.

Rupee Hits Fresh Low, Slips to 72.98

The latest global trade protectionist measures, along with high crude oil prices, dragged the Indian rupee to a fresh low of 72.98 per US dollar on Tuesday.

At 5 pm, the rupee closed at 72.98 per greenback from its previous close of 72.51 per dollar.

7 Nabbed in Pranay Perumalla Murder Case

In the case related to murder Pranay Perumalla, seven have been nabbed including Permulla’s father-in-law, Maruti Rao, and uncle Sravan, ANI reported.

Five others have been nabbed too said AV Ranganath, SP Nalgonda, to ANI.

Pranay Perumalla and his wife Amrutha Varshini, residents of Telangana's Nalgonda were attacked by an unidentified assailant on 14 September. Pranay was killed in the attack. Police suspected caste as the reason behind the incident.

Further investigation underway.

No Proposal on Downsizing Indian Army: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Tuesday said the government was not considering any proposal to downsize the Indian Army.

She, however, said a government-appointed committee had recommended steps to make the Army a lean and powerful machine and Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat has been holding deliberations with his top commanders on it.

BSF Jawan Who Went Missing Along Jammu International Border Found Dead

A BSF jawan, who was missing along the International Border in Jammu has been found dead. The Jawan was suspected to have been hit by unprovoked cross-border fire, officials said.

Sources say few Jawans had gone for clearing the grounds near the LOC, where they were fired upon by Pakistani terrorists. When the troops came back, one Jawan was found to be missing. Search operations are underway.

SC to Hear Plea for Probe Into Rafale Deal on 10 October

The Supreme Court on 10 October will hear a PIL petition seeking probe into the purchase of 36 Rafale fighter jets from French company Dassault.

The bench of Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Navin Sinha and Justice KM Joseph adjourned the hearing of matter on Tuesday, 18 September as petitioner advocate ML Sharma had circulated a letter seeking adjournment till 5 October on the grounds that he was not well.

UAE to extradite Augusta Middleman Christian Michel to India

One of the middlemen named by the ED in the AugustaWestland case, Christian Michel will be extradited to India from the UAE, media reports suggest.

In early 2013, India struck a deal with helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland on the purchase of a new fleet of helicopters for VVIP’s. However, several politicians and military officials have been accused of accepting bribes from AgustaWestland in order to win the ₹36 billion (US$500 million) Indian contract.

Christian Michel is said to be the middleman in the deal struck between Indian officials and AugustaWestland.

The United States expressed hope that a summit between North and South Korea in Pyongyang would lead to "meaningful verifiable" denuclearisation on the peninsula.
