84 People Airlifted from Landslide-Hit Sikkim

Over 80 people, including tourists, who were stranded in North Sikkim due to incessant rains and landslides, were airlifted by the armed forces Monday, district administration officials said.

A total of 84 people, including tourists and locals, were airlifted by helicopters. Forty two people were flown from Chungtang to Gangtok, 22 from Chungthang to Bagdogra, 11 from Mangan to Gangtok, two from Chaten to Gangtok and seven people from Mangan to Chungthang.

Class 11 Student Killed in a Brawl in Panchkula

A Class 11 student was fatally stabbed on Monday in a brawl between two groups of youths in Haryana's Panchkula city, adjoining Chandigarh, police said.

Vikas Kumar was stabbed in the chest by his attackers outside the Government Senior Secondary School in Sector 7 here following a tiff with the rival group's youths suspected to be from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the city.

The CPI-M announced on Monday that it will not take part in the upcoming panchayat polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

The statement said the CPI-M was for empowerment at the grassroots level but given the present situation, it was highly unlikely that people would participate in these elections.

Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh on Monday said that Pakistan is still virtually being ruled by its Army as new Prime Minister Imran Khan has been propped up by it.

Bagri Market Fire Continues to Rage

The fire that engulfed the famous Bagri Market in the central part of Kolkata early Sunday is still raging, with fire fighters saying it may take several hours to control the blaze.
