The US National Hurricane Center says it expects Hurricane Humberto to lash Bermuda with high winds and heavy rain later this week.

South Korea Confirms First Swine Fever Outbreak

South Korea on Tuesday reported its first cases of African swine fever, becoming the latest country hit by the disease that has killed pigs from China to North Korea, pushing up pork prices worldwide.

Five pigs found dead at a farm in Paju, a city near the inter-Korean border, were confirmed to have been infected with the virus, an official with Seoul's agriculture ministry told AFP.

"At this point, it's too early to confirm if the case stemmed from the North," the official added.

Seoul's agriculture minister Kim Hyun-soo said 3,950 pigs from three farms in Paju were to be culled.

Israelis Vote in Repeat Election Centered on PM Netanyahu

Israelis were voting Tuesday in an unprecedented repeat election that will decide whether longtime Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stays in power.

In a politically significant development in Rajasthan, all six Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs have given a letter to the state assembly speaker to merge the legislative party with the Congress.

"The BSP MLAs met me and handed their letter about this," Speaker C P Joshi told PTI on Monday night.

MLAs Rajendra Singh Gudha, Jogendra Singh Awana, Wajib Ali, Lakhan Singh Meena, Sandeep Yadav and Deepchand said they were merging their legislative party with the Congress.

"All the six BSP MLAs were in constant touch with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and today (Monday) they have came into the fold of the Congress," a Congress leader said.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday ruled out negotiations with the US, as tensions mount between the arch-foes after Washington blamed Tehran for attacks on Saudi oil installations.

"The policy of 'maximum pressure' against the Iranian nation is worthless and all Islamic Republic of Iran officials unanimously believe there will be no negotiations with the US at any level," he said, quoted on his official website.

SC Judge Justice M M Shantanagoudar Recuses from Hearing Plea of Disqualified Karnataka MLAs

Supreme Court judge Justice M M Shantanagoudar on Tuesday recused himself from hearing petitions filed by 17 disqualified MLAs of Karnataka challenging the decision of the then Speaker to disqualify them from the Assembly.

"In this matter, I am not participating" Justice Shantanagoudar, who was part of a three-judge bench headed by Justice N V Ramana, said at the outset.

The bench has now posted the matter for hearing on 23 September.

Rail Panel Case: Calcutta HC Extends Interim Protection from Arrest to Mukul Roy till 8 Nov 8

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday extended interim protection from arrest to BJP leader Mukul Roy in a case of alleged payout for a railway panel membership till 8 November.

A division bench comprising justices S Munshi and S Dasgupta adjourned the hearing of Roy's plea till 5 November on a prayer by the West Bengal government.

Appearing for the state, public prosecutor Saswata Mukherjee told the court that the police have collected documents and materials relevant to the case and need time to verify these.

The division bench then said it will hear the matter after the Durga Puja vacation on 5 November and extended interim protection from arrest to Roy till 8 November.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed till 16 October the execution of a death row convict who was scheduled to be hanged on 20 September after his capital punishment was confirmed by the apex court last month in a rape and double murder case in Coimbatore nine years ago.

A three-judge bench headed by Justice RF Nariman stayed the execution of Manoharan while hearing the plea seeking review of the apex court's 1 August verdict.

Ponzi Scam: ED Attaches Assets Worth Rs 278 Crore of Telangana-Based Firm

The ED on Tuesday said it has attached assets worth Rs 278 crore in connection with its money laundering probe in an alleged ponzi scam involving a Telangana-based multi-level marketing group.

In a statement, the agency said residential plots, apartments, farm houses and commercial buildings located in Delhi and Noida and bank deposits in the accounts of Pawan Malhan and Anita Malhan, the main promoters of the firm EBIZ.COM Pvt Ltd, their family members and associates have been attached as part of a provisional order issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

12-Year-Old Boy Accused of Killing Tuition Teacher in Mumbai

A 12-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his tuition teacher to death following a spat between her and his mother in suburban Govandi of Maharashtra.

The incident took place in Shivajinagar area on Monday evening, the police said. The victim was identified as Ayesha Aslam Husuyae (30).

Ayesha gave tuition to the boy at her house, a police official said.

Asia Development Bank President to Step Down

The president of the Asia Development Bank, Takehiko Nakao, plans to step down early next year, the regional lender said on Tuesday.

Japan has usually headed the ADB as a top donor. Finance Minister Taro Aso said in a statement that Tokyo would soon nominate a "high-caliber candidate" as Nakao's successor.

Aso said the government planned to recommend Masatsugu Asakawa, a former vice finance minister, as Tokyo's choice as "best qualified" for the job.

US Singles out Iran, Readies Response to Saudi Oil Attacks

The United States readied its response Monday to the "unprecedented" attack on Saudi oil facilities as President Donald Trump said Iran was likely to blame, fanning new fears of conflict in the Gulf region.

Trump said he was ready to help key ally Saudi Arabia counter the weekend drone attacks, which triggered a record leap in global oil prices, but would await a "definitive" determination on who was responsible.

"We have a lot of options," the US leader told reporters, saying there was no rush to react and that talks with allies would come first.

Indo-US Relations on Upward Trajectory: EAM S Jaishankar

Indo-US relations have been on an upward trajectory and they are in a very good health, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Tuesday.

Addressing the 100-day press conference of the Ministry of External Affairs, he said the "trajectory" of the relationship between India and the US has been "upwards" amid various administrations in Washington, be it Bush, Obama and now Trump.

Responding to a question on commerce, he said the trade problem between the two countries is "normal".

"As relationship grows, there will be problems ... the only way you don't have trade problems is when you do not trade," he said referring to the trade relations between the two nations.

44-Year-Old Businessman Shot Dead in Delhi's Jyoti Nagar

A 44-year-old businessman was shot dead allegedly by two unidentified bike-borne assailants after a scuffle broke out between them in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar area, police said on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Rajul Gupta, owned an electronic goods showroom in Jyoti Nagar.

The incident took place outside his house on Monday night when Gupta was returning home after work, the police said.

Pakistani forces have unleashed "unprecedented" cross-border firing along the Indo-Pak border in Samba sector of Jammu, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Tuesday.

It said the border guarding force mounted an "adequate retaliation" after Pakistan opened fire in the evening hours.

The unprovoked firing from across the border was done by small arms on BSF domination areas in the Samba sector, it said.

"No loss or damage to property has been reported on the Indian side," it said.

29 Bodies Found in Plastic Bags in Mexico Mass Grave

Mexican forensics experts have found at least 29 bodies stuffed in 119 plastic bags that were dumped in the bottom of a well outside the western city of Guadalajara, officials have said.

Experts have been working to establish how many victims are in the mass grave since it was discovered earlier this month in a remote area known as La Primavera, about a 45-minute drive outside Guadalajara, Mexico's second city.

300 More Chinese Arrested in Philippines Crackdown

Philippines immigration agents, backed by troops, have arrested more than 300 Chinese for alleged cyber crimes, a week after a similar number were detained during a raid linked to investment fraud.

The Bureau of Immigration late Tuesday said that 324 Chinese nationals were arrested in Puerto Princesa City on Palawan island during Monday's operation.
