Fire Breaks Out Kolkata's Bagri Market

A fire broke out in Kolkata’s Bagri Market in the early hours of Sunday. No casualties have been reported so far from the incident, said Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

The fire is currently being doused, reported ANI. Over 30 fire tenders have been commissioned to the spot.

Petrol and Diesel Prices Increase

Petrol at Rs 81.91/litre (increase by Rs 0.28/litre) and diesel at Rs 73.72/litre (increase by Rs 0.18/litre) in Delhi. Petrol at Rs 89.29/litre (increase by Rs 0.28/litre) and diesel at Rs 78.26/litre (increase by Rs 0.19/litre) in Mumbai.

Fire breaks out in a factory in Udyog Nagar area, 30 fire tenders at the spot.

PM Modi to Visit Varanasi on 17 and 18 September and Odisha on 22 September

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on September 17 and 18. On 18 September, he will inaugurate or lay the Foundation Stone for more than Rs 500 worth worth of development projects.

The prime minister will also travel to Odisha on 22 September to hold two rallies and launch various projects, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told ANI.

Pickle Factory Owner, Son and Labourer Die in after Falling in Tank

A man and his son, owners of a pickle factory and a labourer died this morning after falling into a tank in Ghaziabad’s Daulat Nagar. The bodies have been recovered and sent for postmortem.

According to the area’s sub-divisional magistrate, the father-son lived in Delhi and were running the factory illegally. There was a tank-like space where they used to process vegetables in chemicals to make pickles. When the father-son visited the factory, they fell into the tank and died due to chemicals. When a labourer came to help, he also fell in the tank and died.

The DM of the area has ordered a magistrate level inquiry into the matter.

Tribal Woman Raped in West Bengal

A tribal woman was allegedly raped in a forest in Birbhum district on Saturday, a police officer said.

According to a complaint lodged at Suri police station Sunday, the incident took place when the woman had gone to the forest near the district headquarter town to tend cows.

Suddenly, the accused dragged the woman, a second year student of a college in Suri, to the dense forest and allegedly raped her.

The accused Mazid Khan was arrested and remanded to one day's judicial custody.

18 Injured as Truck Falls into Gorge in Chamba

Eighteen persons were injured - five of them critically - as a truck they were travelling in fell into a gorge at Sathaly between Bharmour and Hudsor in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district late on Sunday night, the police said.

The police reached the spot soon after getting the information and rescued the injured, which included 12 women, Chamba Superintendent of Police Monica Bhutunguru said.

Nepal, Bhutan Have to Be Inclined Towards India: Gen Rawat

Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Sunday, 17 September, said countries like Nepal and Bhutan “have to be inclined towards India because of geography.”

In his reply to a query on the growing closeness between Nepal and China, Rawat said ties between nations change along with the global scenario.

“Countries like Nepal and Bhutan have to be inclined towards India because of geography,” Rawat said on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the Bay of Bengal initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation-Field Training Military Exercise (BIMSTEC-MILEX).

IAF Plans 'Strategic Base' in Andhra

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has come up with major plans for Andhra Pradesh to make it a 'strategic base'.

Prime among them are IAF's plans to set up a major helicopter training facility at Donakonda in Prakasam district.

The other plans put forth before the AP government are establishing a drone manufacturing facility in Anantapur district, a cyber security centre in Amaravati and making Rajahmundry and Vijayawada airports asset positioning bases, top bureaucratic sources said.
