Six Cameroon Soldiers Killed in Boko Haram Attack: Authorities

Six Cameroonian soldiers were killed Friday in an attack by Boko Haram jihadists in the far north of the country, authorities said on Sunday.

Nine other soldiers were injured in the attack carried out on a military post at Soueram near Fotokol in the Lake Chad region by armed men, an army officer and two high-ranking officials in the local administration told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Two Injured in Shooting at Youth Football Game in Texas

Police in Texas say two people were injured when gunfire erupted at a youth football game.

Authorities say a woman was struck in the leg and a girl was grazed in the back when shots rang out during the game among elementary school-aged children Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth.

Both were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fort Worth police say the incident started as a dispute between parents at the game.

Colombia Plane Crash Kills Seven

At least seven people were killed and another three injured when a small plane crashed in southwestern Colombia on Sunday, a firefighter said.

"Nine people were on board the plane. Seven died, while two are seriously injured," Juan Carlos Ganan, the commander of firefighters in the area, told AFP.

The third person injured was a child on the ground in the area where the plane crashed, Ganan said.

Firefighters were trying to stop fuel leaking from the aircraft, Ganan added.

Letter Threatens Bomb Attacks by Jaish at Railways Stations: Police

A letter purportedly sent by Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) has threatened of bomb attacks at several railway stations, including Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru, police said on Sunday.

The letter written in Hindi was sent by ordinary mail to the railway police in Rohtak, an official of the Rohtak police said.

He said the letter is signed by one Masood Ahmed and was received on Saturday.

The letter states that the JeM would avenge the killings of its militants by blowing up railway stations in several parts of the country, including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Rajasthan and Haryana's Rohtak, Rewari and Hisar on 8 October.

Pak Violates Ceasefire Along LoC in J&K’s Poonch

Pakistani Army violated ceasefire by resorting to mortar shelling on forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said on Monday.

A few Army personnel, part of an ambush party, were injured when two mortar shells exploded near them during the shelling on Sunday night, the officials said.

"Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intense shelling with mortars in Balakote area of Mendhar sector around 2230 hours on Sunday. Indian army retaliated befittingly," a defence spokesperson said in a statement.

Officials said an army column was on ambush duty near the LoC when two mortar shells exploded near them, causing injuries to a "few personnel".

"The injured were immediately evacuated to military hospital and their condition is stated to be stable," they said.

Two Held over RSS Activist's Killing

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly killing an RSS activist in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district two days ago, police said on Monday.

One of the accused, Kawarpal, confessed that he, his son Monu and his brother Pramod killed Pankaj for allegedly harassing his daughter over the past several months, an officer said.

Kawarpal and Monu were arrested at Karwara village under Titawi police station area on Sunday evening. The weapon used in the killing have also been seized, Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yadav told reporters.

More than 49,000 members of the United Auto Workers union went on strike early Monday as contract talks with General Motors broke down.

Union members walked out of factories and set up picket lines at 33 plants across the nation as well as 22 parts warehouses.

UAW Vice President Terry Dittes (DIT-ez) says a strike is the union's last resort because both sides are far apart in bargaining over a new four-year contract, including on issues like health care and fair wages.

But GM says it has made substantial offers, including higher wages and $7 billion worth of factory investments that would create hundreds of new jobs.

Trump Authorizes Release of US Oil Reserves if Needed Because of Saudi Attacks

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he authorized the release of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) if needed in a quantity to be determined because of Saturday’s attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

“Based on the attack on Saudi Arabia, which may have an impact on oil prices, I have authorized the release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, if needed, in a to-be-determined amount sufficient to keep the markets well-supplied,” Trump said on Twitter.

China's Economy Strains Under Disappointing Data

China's economy showed more signs of strain Monday as the country published weak data for industrial output, investment and retail sales, amid a lingering trade war with the United States.

Industrial output grew by 4.4 per cent year-on-year throughout August, falling to its lowest level in 17 years and down from 4.8 per cent in July.

The figure was well below analyst expectations, with a Bloomberg survey of analysts predicting heartier growth of 5.2 percent.

"We must be aware that international instabilities and uncertainties are increasing significantly, and that at home economic structural issues are still prominent and the downward pressures on (the) economy are mounting," said Fu Linghui, a spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, which released the data.

Man Held at Delhi Airport with Smuggled Gold

An Indian has been arrested at the Delhi airport on his arrival from Saudi Arabia for allegedly smuggling gold worth over Rs 27 lakh by concealing it in speakers and bucket handle, customs officials said on Monday.

The passenger, who landed at Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday from Saudi Arabia's Jeddah city via Bahrain, was intercepted by the customs officers after he had crossed the 'green channel', the officials said.

A personal and baggage search resulted in the recovery of two gold rods and two circular gold disks, weighing 780 gm, concealed inside bucket handle and speakers, the officials said.
