Ecuador Says Hit by 40 Million Cyber Attacks Since Assange Arrest
Ecuador said on Monday it has suffered 40 million cyber attacks on the webpages of public institutions since stripping Wikileaks founder Julian Assange of political asylum.
Patricio Real, Ecuador's deputy minister for information and communication technologies, said the attacks, which began on Thursday, had "principally come from the United States, Brazil, Holland, Germany, Romania, France, Austria and the United Kingdom," as well as from the South American country itself.

Four people were shot dead in Penticton, British Columbia, on Monday and a suspect is in custody, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement.

SC Issues Notice on Plea Seeking Women's Entry in Mosques
Supreme Court has issued notice to the Centre, National Commission for Women, Central Waqf Council and All India Muslim Personal Law Board on a plea seeking direction that Muslim women be allowed to enter mosques and offer prayers.
The petition filed in SC by a Pune based couple also seeks direction to declare the prohibition on entry of Muslim women into mosques in the country “illegal and unconstitutional” as it violates of women’s fundamental rights.

NASA's latest planet-hunting probe has discovered its first Earth-sized exoplanet orbiting a star 53 light-years away.
The Transiting Exoplanets Survey Satellite (TESS) also discovered a warm sub-Neptune-sized world in the same system, according to a study published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal were awarded Pulitzer Prizes on Monday for their separate investigations of President Donald Trump and his family.
The Times won the prestigious journalism award for explanatory reporting for its probe of the Trump family's finances that "debunked his claims of self-made wealth and revealed a business empire riddled with tax dodges," the Pulitzer Prize Board announced during a ceremony at New York's Columbia University.
Coverage of Trump's secret hush money payments to two women during his 2016 presidential campaign who claimed to have had affairs with him earned the Journal a national reporting nod.

Kabul Announces List of 250 Afghans for Talks with Taliban
Kabul has announced a list of 250 people — including around 50 women — who are headed for Qatar for talks with the Taliban later this week, a gathering known as intra-Afghan dialogue.
The list was released by the government on Tuesday although the Taliban have refused to talk directly with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's government, saying they would recognize participants only as "ordinary" Afghans.
The talks are due to start Friday.

DGCA to Monitor Domestic Airfares on Daily Basis: Official
Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will continue to monitor airfare movements on a daily basis and also engage with airline for appropriate action, a senior official said on Tuesday amid concerns over rising ticket prices.
With crisis-hit Jet Airways drastically curtailing its operations, there has been an adverse impact on the number of flights being operated on various routes.
As concerns persist on higher air ticket prices, the DGCA on Tuesday held a meeting with representatives of airlines, the official said.
Airlines were advised to continue to monitor at their level and provide information to the DGCA to keep fares low as far as possible, he noted.

A bomb threat has forced the evacuation of a Madrid skyscraper which houses the British, Dutch, Australian and Canadian embassies, police said on Tuesday. The bomb threat was received by telephone at the Australian embassy there.
"A bomb threat was received.... Evacuation has started, we have to work and do checks," a police spokesman told AFP.

Wipro Q4 Net Rises to ₹2,484 Crore
Software services exporter Wipro Ltd on Tuesday reported a 38 percent rise in fourth-quarter profit, helped by a strong performance from its banking, financial services and insurance segment.
Their net profit rose to Rs 2,484 crore in the three months to 31 March, from Rs 1,803 crore in the same period in 2018. Revenue from its mainstay IT services business grew 11.1 percent, driving the Bengaluru-based company's total revenue to Rs 15,038 crore as opposed to Rs 13,824 crore in 2018.
The board of Wipro also approved a share buyback proposal of up to Rs 10,500 crore, comprising up to 32.3 crore shares at Rs 325 apiece through tender offer.

Moderate Earthquake Hits Nepal's Gorkha District
A magnitude 4.5 earthquake jolted Gorkha district in Nepal on Tuesday, causing panic among the residents. The quake was felt in Gorkha district and surrounding areas around 12:35 p.m, according to the National Seismological Center (NSC).
However, there was no report of any damage. This is the third quake that hit Nepal in the past five days.

Thunderstorm, Rainfall Likely in Delhi-NCR in Next Two Hours: IMD
The India Meteorological Department has forecast thunderstorm and light rainfall in Delhi and NCR areas during the next two hours.
According to the nowcast issued by IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre here, several parts of the Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Gurgaon, are likely to witness thunderstorm, light rainfall and gusty winds with a speed of up to 50kmph.
The forecast is valid till 8:30pm, the IMD said.

A plea has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking review of an order by which a plea for various civil rights, such as same-sex marriage, adoption and surrogacy for the LGBTQ community was dismissed.
The apex court, on 29 October, 2018, had dismissed a plea filed by Tushar Nayyar which had sought reliefs such as grant of civil rights to the members of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer) community besides seeking decriminalising the consensual gay sex.

Govt Asks Google, Apple to Comply with Court Order Prohibiting Tiktok Download
The government has asked tech giants Google and Apple to comply with the Madras High Court's order that had banned popular mobile app TikTok, according to sources.
Sources said instructions in this regard were sent to the two American companies on Monday after the Supreme Court refused to stay the April 3 order of Madras High Cout that had directed the Centre to ban Tiktok app over concerns about access to pornographic content through it.

European Parliament Backs Rules to Protect Whistleblowers
The European Parliament on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted for rules aimed at protecting whistleblowers from reprisals following corporate scandals such as Dieselgate and Cambridge Analytica.
With 591 votes in favour, 29 against and 33 abstentions, the parliament backed rules to boost the fight against fraud, corruption, corporate tax avoidance and damage to people's health and the environment.
Recent corporate scandals "have helped to shine a light on the great precariousness that whistle-blowers suffer today," said Virginie Roziere, the French socialist who steered the legislation through the assembly.

Following Threat Letter, Security Beefed up Across Haryana, Himachal
Security has been tightened across Haryana and Himachal Pradesh after an official of the Ambala Cantonment railway station on Tuesday received a threat letter, officials said.
The letter threatened to blow up railway stations and religious places in the state "to avenge the atrocities against Muslims by Hindus", Station House Officer (GRP) Ram Bachahan said.
"The station director at the Ambala Cantonment railway station on Tuesday received a letter threatening to blow up a few railway stations of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh including Ambala Cantt and various religious places," Bachahan said.
The station's director B S Gill found the letter on his table, he said, adding that there was no stamp of a post office on the letter cover.

Sacked UP Cop Gets Bail in Apple Executive Vivek Tiwari's Death Case
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court Tuesday granted bail to a sacked Uttar Pradesh Police constable in connection with Apple executive Vivek Tiwari's murder case.
Sandeep Kumar who was sent to jail on 22 March was directed by the court not to misuse the liberty of bail and affect the trial. The order came from Justice D K Singh.
The petitioner had pleaded that he was innocent as his name had initially not figured in the police charge sheet as a murder accused.
Kumar and another constable, Prashant Chaudhary, were arrested and dismissed from service after the 38-year-old Apple area sales manager was shot dead early on 29 September, 2018 for allegedly refusing to stop his car.

The Union Finance Ministry issued an order on Tuesday after getting sanction from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and subsequently the ED headquarters in Delhi issued the orders relieving Agarwal from the post of special director of the agency in Mumbai, the officials said.
