Five Drown in Narmada Boat Tragedy

At least five persons were drowned and 34 rescued after a boat capsized in the Narmada river near Bhushangaon village in Maharashtra's Nandurbar district on Tuesday, police said.

Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, requesting that the condition of mandatory passport for devotees seeking to cross the Kartarpur Corridor be waived off to facilitate the pilgrimage to the Gurdwara located in Pakistan.

In his letter to Rajnath Singh, the Punjab Chief Minister has requested the central government to put in place a simple procedure which would facilitate “khulle darshan deedar” of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara, in keeping with the traditional Sikh Ardas (prayer).

He has also asked Centre to quickly finalise the alignment of the road access & attendant govt infrastructure to be built around the Corridor so that the process of acquisition may be commenced without any further delay to ensure early operationalisation of the Corridor.

Al-Shabab Claims Nairobi Hotel Complex Attack

A 35-year-old Indian man and 27 Thai women have been arrested in Thailand for their alleged involvement in fake marriages registration scam that permits Indians to get residential visas in the country, authorities said.

The Indian man, Wikrom Layerhi, was arrested on charge of being a broker to arrange for Thai women to register fake marriages with Indian nationals, the National daily reported.

PCR Staff Saves Woman from Fire Tragedy

A 49-year-old woman was rescued by the PCR staff after a fire broke out in her home in Rohini, police said Tuesday.

The staff of the Police Control Room (PCR) van located in Rohini area was informed on Monday at 2.15 pm by one Rachit Verma regarding the fire on the first floor of the woman's home following which the officials rushed to the spot, they added.

SHRC Issues Notice to Yavatmal Collector over Villagers' Rehab

The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has issued a notice for personal appearance to Yavatmal District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh in connection with the alleged delay in rehabilitation of residents of a flood-hit village in 2013.

Apart from the collector, the notice was issued to the Secretary of Relief and Rehabilitation last week. They have been asked to remain present before the SHRC on 19 January.
