Ecuador President Defends Assange Asylum Withdrawal

Ecuadoran President Lenin Moreno on Sunday, 14 April, defended his decision to overturn Julian Assange's asylum status, claiming in an interview with the Guardian newspaper that the WikiLeaks founder had tried to set up a "centre for spying" in Ecuador's London embassy.

"It is unfortunate that, from our territory and with the permission of authorities of the previous government, facilities have been provided within the Ecuadoran embassy in London to interfere in processes of other states," Moreno said.

In Delhi, Rajouri Garden police have arrested two people for posing as Income Tax officers and collecting Rs 48 Lakh cash and DVR (digital video recorder) of a CCTV from a house.

Rs 22.45 Lakh of the duped money has been seized from their possession.

Woman Raped by Two Youths in Front of Her Mother in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two youths in front of her mother in a sugarcane field in Kakrauli area of the district, police said.

The incident happened Sunday when the victim along with her mother had gone to buy medicines in Kakroli police station area here.

A case has been registered against the two accused, including Dilshad, and an unidentified person who were absconding, Station House Officer (SHO Jitender Kumar said, adding the victim has been sent for medical examination.

A 50-year-old man was apprehended at a Delhi Metro station in Ghaziabad on Monday, 15 April, for allegedly carrying a pistol and live bullet rounds in his bag, officials said.

CISF personnel apprehended Raj Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, at the Arthala metro station around 11:30 am after the baggage scanner detected a country-made pistol and three bullets in his bag, they said.

6-Yr-Old Falls in Noida Drain, NDRF Roped in for Search

A six-year-old child fell into an open drain on Monday afternoon following which a search operation was launched by the police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to rescue him, police said.

The incident took place in the afternoon when a couple of children were crossing the drain near Salarpur Khadar village and one of them accidentally fell into it, a police official said.

The child has been identified as Saurabh, a class 1 student, who lived with his family in a village in Sector 81, the official said.

Palghar Cops Issue Notices to Writers, Social Activists

In run up to the Lok Sabha elections, the police in neighbouring Palghar district in Maharashtra have issued prevention notices to writers, poet and social activists.
