Retired IPS Officer, Son Beaten up in Patna After Altercation

A retired IPS officer Ajay Verma and his son were allegedly beaten up by bike-borne miscreants in Patna on Tuesday. An altercation broke out between the two parties when one of the bikes hit the officer's car. The miscreants also vandalised his car. A FIR has been registered and police is trying to identify the accused.

Faridabad DCP Shoots Self With Service Revolver

Faridabad DCP Vikram Kapoor allegedly killed himself by shooting himself with a service revolver at his residence on Wednesday, police said.

Based on a suicide note recovered from Kapoor's house, two people, including Bhopani police station SHO Abdul Shahid, were detained, police sources said.

Details of the suicide note were not immediately available but according to the sources, the deputy commissioner of police in the letter alleged that he was being blackmailed by a police station in-charge and another person.

Alleged Christchurch Gunman Sends Letter From Prison Cell

New Zealand officials admitted on Wednesday that they made a mistake by allowing the man accused of killing 51 people at two Christchurch mosques to send a hand-written letter from his prison cell.

The six-page letter from Brenton Tarrant was posted this week on the website 4chan, which has become notorious as a place for white supremacists to post their views. And it comes at a sensitive time, with other alleged killers from El Paso to Norway citing Tarrant as an inspiration.

The letter appears to be written in pencil on a small notepad and is addressed to "Alan" in Russia. Much of it appears to be relatively innocuous, discussing a one-month trip Tarrant says he took to Russia in 2015.

Court Extends Ex-J-K MLA Rashid Engineer's NIA Custody in Terror-Funding Case

A Delhi court on Wednesday extended till 21 August the NIA custody of former Independent MLA in Jammu and Kashmir Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Rashid Engineer, arrested in a case related to funding of terror activities in the Valley.

Rashid, who was a legislator from the Langate Assembly seat in north Kashmir, is the first mainstream politician to have been arrested by the NIA in the case.

Inter-State Council Reconstituted With PM as Chairman

The Inter-State Council, which is mandated to investigate and advise on disputes between states, has been reconstituted with PM Narendra Modi as its chairman and six Union ministers and all chief ministers as members.

According to a notification, the Union ministers who will be members of the reconstituted council are Amit Shah (Home), Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance), Rajnath Singh (Defence), Narendra Singh Tomar (Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj).

Other members are: Thaawar Chand Gehlot (Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment) and Hardeep Singh Puri (Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs).
