Underworld don Ravi Pujari has been arrested in Senegal, according to media reports.
Pujari used to operate in Mumbai in the 1990s and was believed to be in hiding in Australia.
Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with security forces on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Pulwama following information about presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said a gun battle ensued as the militants opened fire at the security forces.
Two militants were gunned down, the official said, adding that their identities and group affiliation were being ascertained.

A Washington judge has hit the Syrian government with a USD 302 million judgment over the 2012 death of journalist Marie Colvin, a longtime foreign correspondent for The Sunday Times.
In a verdict unsealed late on Wednesday night, US District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson concluded the Syrian military had deliberately targeted the makeshift media center in the city of Homs where Colvin and other journalists were working.

A Mirage 2000 trainer fighter aircraft crashed at the HAL Airport in Bengaluru, claiming two lives. Both pilots had ejected, but one of them died as he had landed on the wreckage of the aircraft, and the other pilot succumbed to injuries in hospital.
Both were test pilots- Squadron leader Negi and Squadron leader Abrol.

Washington is willing to discuss “many actions” to improve ties and entice Pyongyang to give up nuclear weapons, the US special envoy for North Korea said on Thursday, 31 January, but set out an extensive list of demands for the North, including a full disclosure of its weapons program.

The State Bank of India today reported a consolidated net income of Rs 4,709.15 crore in the December quarter against a net loss of Rs 1,886.57 crore in the same period previous fiscal.
Total income on a consolidated basis rose to Rs 84,350.11 crore from Rs 74,190.87 crore, the bank said in a regulatory filing.

At least six immigrant detainees, including Indians, have been force-fed through nasal tubes by immigration authorities in the US after they went on a hunger strike to protest conditions at a processing centre in Texas, drawing a strong reaction from Indian-American groups which described it as violation of human rights.
In a statement, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said that as of Wednesday night, 11 detainees in El Paso had refused to eat; four other individuals at different ICE detention centres across the country were also on hunger strike, officials said.

The US is in serious negotiations with the Taliban for the first time in 19 years to end the war in Afghanistan, President Donald Trump has said as he touted his administration's talks with the militant group.

A superfast train between Jabalpur and Ajmer derailed near Jaipur today, officials said. The engine of the Dayodaya Express overturned, and the immediate coach after it derailed near Sanganer railway station around 1 pm, a North Western Railway spokesperson said.
The driver of the train was injured, but there was no immediate report of injury to any passenger, police said. A rescue team has already rushed to the spot.

The Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the only all weather surface link between Kashmir and rest of the country, has been closed for vehicular traffic for the second consecutive day today due to fresh snowfall and landslides, officials said.
"There was fresh snowfall and also landslides on highway in Pantiyal-Battery Cheshma-Ramban sector. Restoration work at several places is going on despite shooting of stones at Battery Cheshma, Anokhi, Digdool and Pantiyal," Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Sharma said.
