Four LeT Terrorists Gunned Down in Pulwama, Three Army Personnel and One Policeman Injured

Four terrorists of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Lassipora area of Pulwama District, reported ANI.

Three army personnel and one policeman sustained injuries. They have been hospitalized and are in a stable condition. Arms and ammunition have been recovered from site of encounter. A case has been registered.

25 Killed, 400 Injured as Rainstorm Hits Nepal; Army Called out

At least 25 people were killed and 400 others injured as a massive rainstorm hit several villages in southern Nepal, officials said Monday.

The storm hit many villages in Bara and Parsa districts Sunday evening, according to the Home Ministry officials.

While 24 people were killed in Bara district, 128 kilometers south of Kathmandu, one person died in Parsa district, they said.

Inactive Grenade Found in Dannahar, Uttar Pradesh

An inactive grenade was found in Mainpuri's Dannahar police station limits today. Some children had taken it out of a pond and kept it on road. Investigations are ongoing and more details are awaited.

Mainpuri SP Ajai Shankar Rai said, “The grenade found is old & inactive. It was found in a canal and brought out by children bathing there. Pakistan Military Courts Cease to Function After Four Years

Pakistan's special military courts, which were set up in 2015 to try civilians on terrorism charges, have ceased to exist after the government failed to get the support of the Opposition to extend their tenure, according to a media report on Monday.

The courts were set up weeks after the Peshawar school attack on 16 December , 2014, for speedy trial of hardcore militants. The massacre left over 150 people dead, mostly students.

Initially the court were set up for two years but later the tenure was extended in 2017 for another two years.

Ethiopian Airlines Crash Report Due on Today: Foreign Ministry

A preliminary report from the fatal crash of a Boeing 737 Max in which 157 people died in Ethiopia will be released later today, Ethiopia's foreign ministry said.

"The Ethiopia Ministry of Transport will give a preliminary report into its investigation of the ET 302 plane crash later on Monday," said Nebiat Getachew, Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8 operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed on 10 March southeast of Addis Ababa.

Fugitive Tycoon to Challenge Hong Kong's Extradition Plans

A fugitive billionaire has vowed to launch a legal challenge against Hong Kong's controversial plan to sign an extradition agreement with Macau, Taiwan and mainland China, his lawyers said today.

Hong Kong property tycoon Joseph Lau is wanted in Macau where he was convicted in absentia for bribery in the gambling enclave in 2014.

He remains a free man because Hong Kong and Macau do not currently have an extradition agreement.

Catholic Priests Burn Harry Potter Books in Poland

Catholic priests in the northern Polish city of Koszalin burned books they say are sacrilegious this weekend, including tomes from British author JK Rowling's Harry Potter series of fantasy novels.

"We obey the Word," priests said in a Facebook post showing photographs of the public book burning and quoting Biblical passages from the book of Deuteronomy in the Old Testament.

One passage exhorting believers to destroy the enemies of God includes the passage "burn their idols in the fire".

Cases were registered against BJP leader and Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey and 149 others today in Bihar's Buxar district on charges of misbehaving with public servants on duty.

'Positive Progress' on Azhar's Listing: China

China toay said it has made "positive progress" with other parties on the issue of declaring Pakistan-based terror group JeM chief Masood Azhar as an international terrorist but warned that a US-proposed draft resolution on it will only complicate the matter.

Beijing also said the US was aware of the progress made by China with other parties but still wanted to bypass the UN 1267 terror panel and push the draft resolution through the Security Council.

Mozambique Confirms 1st Cholera Death as Cases Above 500

Mozambique's cyclone-hit city of Beira has confirmed its first death from cholera, as the number of cases of the disease has jumped to 517.

To control the outbreak emergency clinics have been set up across Beira, a city of 500,000, said Mozambican national health director Ussene Isse, according to broadcaster TVM.

Cases of the acute diarrheal disease have risen dramatically since the first five cases were confirmed last week. Cyclone Idai severely damaged the water system for Beira, a city of 500,000, when it hit on 14 March.

CBI Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to Vadra

Special CBI court today granted anticipatory bail plea to Robert Vadra in money laundering case. Court also allows anticipatory bail to his close aide Manoj Arora. Robert Vadra and Manoj Arora both were on interim bail currently.

Robert Vadra and Manoj Arora have to furnish a personal bail bond of Rs 5 lakhs.

The court has imposed bail conditions that both Robert Vadra and Manoj Arora cannot leave the country without prior permission of the court. Both will have to join the investigation when called. The court also stated that there should be no tampering with evidence or influencing of witnesses.

Kolkata's Century-Old Club Gutted in Early Morning Fire

A century-old athletic club in central Kolkata's maidan area was reduced to ashes after a fire broke out today morning, police said.

The cause of the blaze, which erupted at Wari Athletic Club (Wari AC) around 5.40 am, is yet to be ascertained, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said, adding, four fire tenders were pressed into service.

The fire was brought under control by 6.10 am, he said.

At least 26 firefighters were killed while battling a forest blaze in remote mountains in southwest China, the state media reported today.

The firefighters were sent to put the fire which broke out on Saturday in Liangshan Yi autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Sichuan province, China Daily quoted the PLA Daily, the official organ of the Chinese military as saying.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today said that the condition of a seven-year-old boy who was assaulted brutally by his mother's partner last week was "very critical".

The boy was left with a cracked skull after he was hit with a stick allegedly by his mother's partner when the Class II student was trying to protect his younger brother from being beaten up. The incident occurred in Thodupuzha area of Iduki district on last Wednesday.

Confiscating Properties Draconian, Not Help Creditors: Mallya Tells Bombay HC

Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya today told the Bombay High Court that confiscation of his properties under the newly-enacted Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA) was draconian and it will not help the creditors.

Mallya had last month approached the high court challenging a 5 January order of a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court declaring him a fugitive economic offender under the FEO Act.

As per provisions of the Act, once a person is declared a fugitive, his properties can be confiscated by the prosecuting agency, Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Facebook has taken down 103 "assets" - pages, groups and accounts - linked to employees of Pakistan Army's media wing and involved in "coordinated inauthentic behaviour", the social media giant said today.

The company - which shared details on "four separate, distinct and unconnected" takedowns linked to both Pakistan and India - said it had removed the pages, accounts and groups set up by the networks "for violating Facebook's policies on coordinated inauthentic behaviour or spam".

A mobile court in Bangladesh has sentenced a man to two years in prison for taking photos of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) structures and sending those to Indias Border Security Force (BSF), the media reported.

Mithoon Mia, 23, from Godagarhi Upazila was arrested at Sahebnagar border and sentenced on Saturday, bdnews24.com reported on Sunday.

Four militants belonging to a combined group of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfits, were killed, while three army jawans and a policeman injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district today, police said.

Acting on a credible input about the presence of militants in Lassipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district, security forces launched a cordon and search operation there this morning, a police spokesperson said.

HC Orders Day-To-Day Hearing in a Death Sentence Case of 1984 Riots

The Delhi High Court has ordered day-to-day hearing in the death reference as also the convict's appeal against the capital punishment awarded to him in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Manoj Kumar Ohri said the appeal and the death reference of convict Yashpal Singh would be heard on daily basis till the conclusion of arguments.

"List for hearing on 22 April. It is made clear that, the hearing of the connected appeal and death reference shall be conducted on day to day basis till the conclusion of the arguments," the bench said in a recent order.

The Income Tax department has attached a house of hardline Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani located in Delhi in connection with an over Rs 3.62 crore tax evasion case against him.

The flat is located in south Delhi's Khirki Extension locality in Malviya Nagar. A Tax Recovery Officer (TRO) of the department sealed the house as Geelani allegedly failed to pay Rs 3,62,62,160 income tax for assessment years 1996-97 to 2001-02, said an order accessed by PTI.

Earthquake Strikes Iran-Iraq Border

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the western Iranian province of Kermanshah bordering Iraq today, authorities said, without reporting damage or casualties.

The quake struck a region already gripped by massive floods that have cut off entire cities and submerged many villages. More than 40 people were reported killed in floods last month across much of Iran.

The national seismological centre said the quake's epicentre was 22 kilometres (14 miles) south of the city of Sumar and at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Kerala Woman Starved to Death: Ncw Directs Police Chief to Probe Case

The National Commission for Women today directed the Kerala Police chief to launch a probe into the death of a 27-year-old woman who was allegedly starved to death by her husband and mother-in-law for dowry.

In a letter to SPC Loknath Behara, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma said she was "seriously disturbed" by the reported inhuman treatment meted to the woman, who died on 21 March.

Farmer Held with 14 Lion Claws in Gujarat's Amreli

A farmer has been apprehended with 14 claws today which he had removed earlier in February from a dead lion in the Tulshishyam Range of Gujarat's Gir Forest, senior official said.

The farmer, identified as 45-year-old Vashram Dhapa of Pachapachiya village in Khambha taluka from Amreli, was nabbed Sunday from his farm in nearby Sonariya based on a tip-off, DT Vasavada, Chief Conservator of Forests, Junagadh Wildlife Circle said.

PIL Alleges PNB Housing Engaged in Illegal Lending Practice

The Delhi High Court sought a response today from the National Housing Bank, the principal agency to promote housing finance institutions in the country, on a PIL which alleged that PNB Housing Finance Ltd was engaged in "malicious and illegal predatory lending practice" and sought its audit by NHB.

A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice A J Bhambhani issued notices to the NHB, a subsidiary of RBI, and PNB Housing Finance Ltd and sought their stand on the plea by 9 August.

The ED has filed a charge sheet against a jailed operative of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based proscribed terror group, on charges of money laundering and acting as a terror financing conduit.

In a statement, the agency said a prosecution complaint (charge sheet) was filed against Mohammed Umer Madani, aged about 60 years, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before a special court on 30 March.

Ruling BJP MLA Dilip Sarkar died at a private hospital in Delhi today following prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 61.

"Sarkar was suffering for quiet some time from liver and kidney related problems and was admitted to Apollo hospital in Delhi. He was in ventilation for few days before his death. His demise is an irreparable loss for us," state BJP party spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said.

A war of words ensued between the NSUI and the BJP-backed ABVP today, with the two taking potshots at each other over the April Fools' Day.

The Congress-affiliated students' outfit wrote letters to President Ram Nath Kovind urging him to declared 1 April as "Modi Fools Day". It said, in the last five years Prime Minister Narendra Modi has "fooled the people of the country" and "played" with its future.

Proposed alternatives for retaining much closer economic ties after Brexit, holding a second referendum or stopping Brexit to prevent a no-deal departure all failed to win a majority of votes in parliament.
