Time to Bring US Troops Home From Syria: Trump

President Donald Trump said it was time for US troops to come home from Syria, after years of battling the Islamic State group in the war-ravaged country.

"We won," Trump said in a video message posted on Twitter on Wednesday, declaring the IS jihadists had been defeated. "We've beaten them and we've beaten them badly. We've taken back the land. So our boys, our young women, our men – they're all coming back and they're coming back now," Trump said.

His message came at the end of a day of relative surprise in Washington after news of 2,000 US troops being withdrawn from Syria emerged.

The US Federal Reserve raised the key interest rate to 2.25-2.5 percent, reported AFP.

Bihar Police Constable Shot Dead by Colleague

Bihar police constable Manish Kumar was killed by another constable Prem Chand Prasad with a self-loading rifle (SLR) at around 1:30 am this morning in Amarpur, reported ANI.

Seven Detained for Unlawful Activities in J&K's Rajouri

Seven people were taken into preventive custody on Thursday, 20 December, for allegedly indulging in unlawful activities in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

They have been lodged in the district jail on the orders of executive magistrates, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rajouri, Yougal Manhas.

He said while six men were detained from Rajouri town, two others were taken into custody from the Nowshera area of the district.

HC Asks Police to Give Protection to Swami Agnivesh

The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the city police to provide protection to social activist Swami Agnivesh who had registered two police complaints against members of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for allegedly attacking him here and in Pakur district of Jharkhand.

Justice Najmi Wajiri sought response of the Centre, Delhi government and Delhi police on Agnivesh's plea seeking transfer of the case from police to the CBI or any other central independent investigating agency.

The high court put up the matter for further hearing on 27 February, 2019.

New York Judge James Burke refused to dismiss any charges of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein, reported CNN.

Weinstein is accused of raping a woman in 2013 and forcibly performing oral sex on another at his apartment in Manhattan in 2006. Several other women have raised allegations of sexual assault against the movie mogul.

DU Planning Online Entrance Exams

The Delhi University is planning to introduce online entrance exams from next session onwards, officials said.

“Currently, suggestions are being sought on the members to be appointed to the Admissions Committee. The admissions committee is likely to be formed in the next two weeks,” said an official.

The previous Admissions Committee of the varsity had met in January this year and it was decided that the varsity would have online entrance examinations to ensure that students who have not secured high percentage also stand a chance to study in Delhi University.
