President Donald Trump on Friday ordered a tariff hike on almost all remaining imports from China, less than 24 hours after Washington raised tariffs on approximately $200 billion of Chinese goods.
"The President also ordered us to begin the process of raising tariffs on essentially all remaining imports from China, which are valued at approximately $300 billion," US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement.

"They're short-range and I don't consider that a breach of trust at all. And, you know, at some point I may. But at this point no," he said.

Four people died and 29 were injured, including 17 children, following an explosion at a factory where gunpowder is handled in Colombia's capital Bogota on Friday, authorities said.
The explosion happened at midday in a factory that produces wicks for a local Andean game called tejo or turmeque, in which metal discs are thrown at targets that contain gunpowder and explode on impact.

More than 100 inmates escaped from an Indonesian jail on Sumatra island on Saturday, police said, in the latest breakout to hit the country's creaking prison system.
The prisoners fled the jail in Siak district on Sumatra island early in the morning after rioting and a fire broke out at the detention centre.

Robert Mueller, the US special counsel whose report on Russian election interference has shaken a divided Washington, will not testify before Congress next week, a top Democrat said on Friday.
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler had wanted Mueller to testify on 15 May, but he said a date for the highly anticipated appearance before lawmakers remained under discussion.
"It won't be next week," Nadler told reporters. "But we're negotiating with him, we're talking to him and the Justice Department." Nadler has said that the committee would subpoena Mueller if necessary, but expressed hope that such a step could be avoided.

The central deputation tenure of senior bureaucrat Gopal Krishan Gupta, who had sought complementary passes for IPL matches from Delhi cricket association, has been curtailed and he has been sent back to his cadre - railway ministry.

A journalist critical of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government and its nationalist allies has been hospitalised after being attacked outside his home.
The Yenicag newspaper says Saturday that columnist Yavuz Selim Demirag was beaten up by about five or six people with baseball bats after appearing on a TV show Friday.
The reason for the attack was not known but it comes amid tensions over the top electoral authority's decision to cancel the results of the 31 March mayoral race for Istanbul, which was won by the opposition, and order a revote to take place 23 June.

Venezuela braced on Saturday for another day of nationwide protests after President Nicolas Maduro clamped down further on opposition leader Juan Guaido, locking up his deputy in a military prison following a dramatic arrest.
Edgar Zambrano, deputy speaker of the opposition-majority National Assembly, is being held in preventive detention for "the flagrant commission of the crimes of treason, conspiracy and civil rebellion," the Supreme Court said in a statement announcing the verdict of a lower court.

At least 16 people, including six women, were injured on Saturday, 11 May, when a private bus hit a stationary truck on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Jammu district, police said.
The bus was on its way to Jammu from Udhampur when the accident took place at Jajjar Kotli after the bus driver lost control and rammed into the truck, they said.
The 16 injured, including six women, were taken to a government hospital for treatment, the police said.

Seven members of a family, including two girls, were killed and two others injured when their van was crushed between two trucks at a toll-plaza on Agra-Jhansi Road near Gwalior, a police official said Saturday.
The incident took place late last night, Gwalior citys superintendent of police, RN Pachouri said.
"The van had stopped behind a truck at the toll plaza when a lorry hit it from behind. Due to the impact, the van got crushed between the two heavy vehicles. Seven of the nine passengers in the van were killed," he said.
Two others suffered serious injuries in the incident and were rushed to a hospital.

A court in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district has convicted two men of raping a 15-year-old girl two years ago after taking her to Hyderabad.
Ramgarh Additional District Judge (I) Babita Prasad convicted Suraj Barla (23) and Rajesh Munda (25) under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Friday, 10 May, Additional Public Prosecutor SK Shukla said.
He said the court would pronounce the quantum of punishment on 13 May.

Nearly every country in the world has agreed upon a legally binding framework to reduce the pollution from plastic waste except for the United States, UN environmental officials say.
An agreement on tracking thousands of types of plastic waste emerged on Friday at the end of a two-week meeting of UN-backed conventions on plastic waste and toxic, hazardous chemicals.
Rolph Payet of the United Nations Environment Program said the "historic" agreement linked to the 186-country, UN-supported Basel Convention means that countries will have to monitor and track the movements of plastic waste outside their borders.
The deal affects products used in a broad array of industries, such as health care, technology, aerospace, fashion, food and beverages.

Around three thousand quintals of onions stored in two sheds in Nashik's Nandgaon tehsil were gutted in a fire on Friday, 10 May, police said.
The storage sheds were owned by onion traders Sahebrao Khairnar and Supadu Mahajan and some 25 labourers were working there at the time of the fire, an official said.

Acting tough against cases of corruption, the Indian Army has carried out a Court of Inquiry into allegations of corruption against a senior Lieutenant General for misuse of government funds.
"A Court of Inquiry was ordered by the Army Headquarters under a senior Lieutenant General to probe the corruption charges against the officer after complaints were received that he had misused government funds for buying equipment worth over Rs 10 lakh for personal use," senior government sources told ANI in New Delhi.
Theresa May could be forced to set an exact date for her resignation as Conservative Party leader to make way for a new British Prime Minister in the coming days, a senior Tory MP has said.
Sir Graham Brady, who chairs the influential backbench 1922 Committee of the Conservative Party, told the BBC that he expects a "clear understanding" of May's departure timetable once she has met the committee on Wednesday.

A BSF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on Saturday at Haldarpara area of West Bengal's Nadia district, near the India-Bangladesh border, a police officer said.
NC Roy, a resident of Assam and personnel in 54 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), was found lying on the ground by fellow jawans near Gede border checkpoint with a bullet injury on his stomach, he said.
Roy was immediately taken to Krishnaganj Rural Hospital, where the doctors declared him "brought dead", the officer said, adding that the body has been sent to a hospital in Shaktinagar area of the district for autopsy.
