On Monday, six top Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activists were arrested from West Bengal and Assam by Kolkata Police.

Five of the six arrested were named in the charge-sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Burdwan blast, two years ago.

These terrorists were absconding after Khagragarh blast in Burdwan. Three are of Bangladeshi origin and the other three of Indian origin.
Vishal Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police

Police have also seized laptops, mobiles, fake documents and detonators from the arrested terrorists. Garg added that they were “planning to have a conspiracy in parts of the country” and that they were members of the banned organisation.

Three people had died in the Burdwan blast and a huge number of explosives were seized by the NIA during a search operation.

Giving details of the case, the NIA had said in its charge-sheet that the accused were involved in a conspiracy to overthrow the existing democratic government in Bangladesh “through violent terrorist acts and replace it with a hard-line Sharia-based Islamic rule, which came to light after the accidental blast.”

The mastermind of the attack was Sakil Gazi, a Bangladeshi national, who perished in the explosion.
