1. TMC Councillor in Bengal's Raiganj to Put up Priya Ranjan Das' Statue
A Trinamool councillor of Raiganj municipality tossed a surprise on Wednesday, 21 November, as he announced the installation of a statue of Congress leader Priya Ranjan Das Munshi in his ward within a month.
On Tuesday, 20 November, the Trinamool-run civic board had announced that it would put up a bronze statue of the leader at Siliguri More, a prominent crossing of the town. Das Munshi’s first death anniversary was on Tuesday.
“A sculptor at Krishnagar in Nadia is making the statue and it is almost complete. We will install the statue in a month at Dosti More, located at the entrance to my ward,” said Ashim Adhikary, the Trinamool councillor of ward 25, on Wednesday.

2. Bengal Tribal Kidnapped and Raped, Youth Held
Two youths allegedly kidnapped a 14-year-old tribal girl from near her home in Gajole block of Malda district on Monday, 19 November morning, raped her and left her bleeding 24 hours later.
The girl was admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital with injuries to her private parts.
The girl’s grandmother filed a police complaint, based on which one of the youths has been arrested.
“On Monday morning, my granddaughter had gone to a stand-post near our house to collect drinking water. Then, two youths from the neighbouring village forcibly took her away. My younger granddaughter saw the incident and informed us. We started searching for her but could not find her. Later, we filed a missing diary with police,” said the grandmother.

3. Cooch Behar People Urged to Pay Power Dues
The district administration convened a meeting here on Wednesday, 21 November, as part of an attempt to recover electricity dues to the tune of Rs 116 crore which piled up over the past five years because of a call by the Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association not to pay power bills.
The GCPA made the call for the non-payment to exert pressure on the Bengal government to fulfil the demand for a separate state.
The non-payment campaign was spearheaded by the GCPA leader Bangshibadan Burman who is now the chair of the West Bengal Rajbanshi Development and Cultural Board and the vice-chair of Rajbanshi Bhasa Academy which were formed by the Mamata Banerjee government.

4. Presi to Blame for Hostel Work Delay: Partha
Education minister Partha Chatterjee on Wednesday, 21 November accused the Presidency University authorities of prolonging the renovation of Eden Hindu Hostel.
The public works department (PWD), he said, had missed the 15 November deadline for hostel renovation set by the government because of a list of requirements sent by the university around a fortnight before.
The university had on 1 November asked the department to set up a “temporary partition for cordoning off the zone to be taken up for repair and renovation (later) for the safety of the students” and a “gas bank for safe cooking in the hostel”.

5. Suspicious Radio Signal Intercepted In and Around Kolkata
Suspicious signals in coded languages in an around Kolkata for the past few weeks have been intercepted by amateur radio (Ham radio) operators, prompting authorities to deploy round-the-clock monitoring of radio signals.
The first such incident came into light a few weeks ago just ahead of Diwali, after an amateur Ham radio operator picked up suspicious radio signals and unauthorised radio communication in coded languages from areas in Sodepur in North 24 Parganas district. Since then, such signals were picked up from Chuchura in Hoogly district and Sealdah in Kolkata at a specific time in the night.

6. Mamata Banerjee Forms Panel to Monitor Spitting in Public
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, 20 November formed an 11-member committee headed by chief secretary Moloy De to strengthen the state’s anti-spitting drive.
Home Secretary Atri Bhattacharya, Director General Virendra and Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and KMC Commissioner Khalil Ahmed, along with the department heads of environment, urban development, health, housing and transport, will be part of the panel.
