A young man attempted suicide by jumping in front of a Metro train in Kolkata on Wednesday morning, 2 January 2019, causing brief disruption to Metro services, IANS quoted an official as saying.

The youth was rushed to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

"There has been a suicide attempt in Dum Dum station," Kolkata Metro said in a tweet.

According to IANS, the metro service was partially disrupted between Dum Dum and Girish Park stations for nearly 40 minutes.

The metro services were also suspended for around half-an-hour between Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash stations on Tuesday evening, 1 January, following a problem on the tracks, PTI reported.

On 27 December last year, a fire broke out on board a metro train in Kolkata during rush hours, causing a stampede-like situation and leaving at least 16 passengers injured.
