J’Khand Woman Allegedly Stripped, Hair Chopped Off Over ‘Affair’

In Jharkhand’s Koderma district, a woman was allegedly stripped and her hair was snipped after she was suspected to be involved in an illicit relationship with her 22-year-old nephew, police said on Sunday, 25 August, according to ANI.
The woman had told few other women of Dengodih village about the alleged advances of her nephew. Further, in a woman panchayat held on 21 August, instead of helping the woman, she was allegedly beaten up and her hair snipped.
Following the woman’s complaint that she was allegedly dragged out of her house to be taken to the woman panchayat in order to be punished, a case was registered.
The woman says her husband has not been present for the last three months. The woman further alleged that her nephew was using her to his advantage during these months. The husband had come back a day prior to the incident and claimed that he was not aware of the alleged harassment that his wife was going through. He said that he tried to stop the women from dragging his wife out of the house but was unsuccessful.
Village head Rajiv Pandey condemned the women panchayat’s act.
While the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made yet, Koderma SP M Tamil Vanjan told ANI that 11 people have been identified for their involvement in the matter.
