Anantnag College Students Clash With J&K Police at Sports Event

The chaos ensued after police allegedly attempted to hoist the tricolour at a sports event.

Jammu and Kashmir police, on Wednesday, had organised a T2O tournament for the local teams. The match was to be held at a degree college ground, even though it was being organised by the police and not the college.

However, as reported by IANS, a tricolour was hoisted in the college premises which led to a large number of students raising slogans against it and later vandalising the degree college property.

Students began to raise slogans and vandalise property.

Police stated that the students set hoardings, tents and other things on fire.

It took a while for the students to calm down.

However, Altaf Khan, SP Anantnag has denied that the tricolour was unfurled or that the situation got unmanageable.

Event got delayed due to protest by hooligans. Now the situation is under control and the tournament is on. There were some students of the degree college among the protestors. There was no unfurling of tri-colour, it was a multicolour flag. This was a sports event, it was not any national event. There is no injury, our response was guarded.
SP Anantnag has denied that the tri colour was unfurled.

Ambulances were present in the college campus and the injured were given first aid.
