In a disturbingly bizarre series of events, a man put his wife at stake and reduced her to the status of inanimate commodity meant for exchange. The gambling bet was for an Indian Premier League (IPL) and took place in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, according Times of India (TOI)
Ravinder Singh lost the bet, and therefore, his wife, Jasmeet Kaur.
The issue came to light when Singh’s gambling partners began harassing Kaur, following which she contacted the local police. The police have registered a case, while the accused is still absconding.
Kaur claims that things have been difficult since the very beginning of their five-year marriage. Currently the owner of a boutique, Kaur claims that her husband is an alcoholic and gambler. He asked her for all her jewellery and valuables on the first day of her marriage.
