India has secured the release of its five nationals from pirates in Nigeria, External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, said on Thursday.
The release was secured after intense efforts made by the government, sources said.
The sailors were kidnapped in Warri, Nigeria on December 11 after which Swaraj had sought a report. The Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria AR Ghanshyam met the President of Nigeria to discuss the matter on December 12.
