I-T Officer Held for Taking Bribe, Rs 24 Lakh in New Notes Seized

At the time of the arrest, the officer was allegedly taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh.

CBI has arrested an Income Tax Officer, Vinay Kumar Mangla, at Jhalwar in Rajasthan. At the time of the arrest, the officer was allegedly taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh from an assessee for not imposing penalty on his Income Tax Return.

The agency also found new currency notes worth Rs 24 lakh during searches at his residence, CBI spokesperson said in New Delhi on Friday.

A case was registered U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 against the Income Tax Officer, Jhalawar on a complaint. It was alleged in the complaint that the officer demanded a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant for not imposing penalty due in the scrutiny of his income for the assessment year of 2014-15.

He said CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh from the complainant.

"During the search conducted at the residential premises of the accused, new currency of Rs 24 lakh (approximately) was found," CBI spokesperson said.
