On Saturday, 20 April, five days after a 23-year-old engineering student was found hanging from a tree at a farm in Raichur, Karnataka, the parents addressed the media to alleged that a man named Sudarshan Yadav had been harassing their daughter for the last six months.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s parents, Sudarshan Yadav was arrested on the night of 18 April and a case of rape and murder was filed against him, reported The News Minute.
The victim had gone missing on 13 April. Police are alleging that the victim was in a relationship with the accused, but the parents refused to agree.
The parents also alleged that when their daughter went missing on 13 April, they lodged a complaint at the Sadar Bazaar Police Station but the officers did not take the complaint seriously.
The victim’s mother also added that one of the station writers at the Sadar Bazaar, named Anjaneya, is Sudarshan Yadav’s uncle. “He was the one who influenced the other police officers present at the station to not take our complaint seriously,” she added.
The victim’s scooter, a white Honda Activa, was found parked inside the college campus and her phone had been switched off since 13 April, alleged her parents.
They also said that Anjaneya had their daughter’s phone, which was recovered by the police. But the police authorities refused to comment about this.
The death note found on the body said that the victim was ending her life as she had backlogs in some subjects. The parents said even though the handwriting looked like their daughter’s, she could have been forced by Sudarshan to write the note.
The students of the victim’s college had staged a protest demanding justice. They had alleged that the suicide note was fake, due to which the police was forced to register a case of rape and murder.
