Just a few days ago, marring the nation’s celebration of Independence, news of the deaths of dozens of children in Gorakhpur’s BRD hospital due to an alleged oxygen shortage became public.

As outrage has grown with the true scale of the tragedy becoming apparent, cartoonists came to the fore to bring the issue to public attention in the best way they know.

70 years since Independence, and India’s health system is still letting down its most vulnerable citizens. Public outrage alone won’t solve the problem, only action can.
