A google map search for “anti-national” or “sedition” takes you to Jawaharlal Nehru. Blame it on the algorithm.

One is not sure why one would search for “anti-national” or “sedition” on Google maps, but say, you were curious and went down the rabbit hole – lo and behold, it would lead you to Jawaharlal Nehru University!

Blame it on the Algorithm

Cyber law expert Pawan Duggal says the blunder puts the university in a bad light, but said it was an algorithmic error,a machine made mistake likely to be corrected by Google.

A similar controversy arose in June last year when an image search for “Top 10 Criminals” showed pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Google apologised for the unexpected results due to its algorithm and corrected it immediately.

But that didn’t stop social media, already saturated with opinions on nationalism, from erupting all over again.
