A Class 10 student on Monday, 4 March, was found hanging from a tree in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur area after she disappeared from home.
According to a report by The Times of India, it is suspected that the 16-year-old girl killed herself over the fear of being strip searched before entering the examination hall.
Speaking to the daily, the brother of the victim said on that 1 March, three students – including a boy and two girls – were allegedly strip searched at the Pandhrapath examination centre in Jashpur.
Although the boy was found carrying chits and later rusticated, the two girls who were also strip-searched told their friends that they were humiliated, the report said.
Reeling the under the pressure, the girl disappeared from home and was later found hanging from a tree, the report said.
Following this incident, Jashpur Collector Nilesh Kshirsagar has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
