A Class 10 student on Monday, 4 March, was found hanging from a tree in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur area after she disappeared from home.

According to a report by The Times of India, it is suspected that the 16-year-old girl killed herself over the fear of being strip searched before entering the examination hall.

Speaking to the daily, the brother of the victim said on that 1 March, three students – including a boy and two girls – were allegedly strip searched at the Pandhrapath examination centre in Jashpur.

Although the boy was found carrying chits and later rusticated, the two girls who were also strip-searched told their friends that they were humiliated, the report said.

Hearing this ordeal, the 16-year-old girl told her brother that she would die if she had to undergo this treatment. “I will die. Girls were made to undress on the pretext of checking,” she had said earlier.

Reeling the under the pressure, the girl disappeared from home and was later found hanging from a tree, the report said.

Following this incident, Jashpur Collector Nilesh Kshirsagar has ordered an inquiry into the matter.
