#GoodNews: Anonymous Diwali Gifts For Mumbai’s Slum-Dwellers
The Street Funder was a unique charity fair where the homeless got the chance to pick gifts for themselves.
A charity in Mumbai is trying to brighten up the lives of slum-dwellers this Diwali!
The Street Funder, a fair organised by the Borivali-based Naidu club, encouraged families to donate their unused belongings. These belongings were then browsed through and taken by slum dwellers as gifts.
The event was organised from 13-15 October at Mumbai’s Korakendra grounds. Around 1,500 people came in to browse through the range items, according to an Indian Express report.
People chose from a range of products including furniture, electronic appliances, clothes, toys and games for kids.
Talking to The Indian Express about the one-of-its-kind fair, the founder of the Naidu Club, Ganesh Naidu, said, “Many people appreciated the move and openly donated items. Those in need got them for free. We became a medium and through it could help hundreds of people.”
Many children chose video games and clothes for themselves, whereas adults went with things like furniture, electronic appliances, and so on.
