In a move to provide Delhi residents relief from the burgeoning air pollution crisis in the city, the NDA government at the Centre has sanctioned schemes worth Rs 1,200 crore to keep a check on alarming pollution levels in the capital, Financial Express reported.

On account of the air quality worsening in Delhi due to burning crop residue from October to December months, the schemes will help curb pollution, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said at an event on 26 February, the Financial Express report added.

Incidentally, last month, a bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta accepted the Union government’s plan of action to tackle the pollution woes and fight air contamination in the Delhi-NCR region.

According to the report, the Modi government established a high-level task force under the principal secretary to the Prime Minister to counter the crisis.
