The Assam government has suspended Guwahati (West) Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhanwar Lal Meena for serious lapses in security arrangements during Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi’s visit to the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati on 17 October.

According to a report in Economic Times, CJI Gogoi was visiting the temple during the Navratri festival when the security lapses caused him inconvenience. According to local media reports, BJP Chief Amit Shah was also visiting the temple at the same time – due to which a large crowd of people thronged the temple premises, leading to chaos.

However, as per the order signed by Secretary Home (A) Department, Deepak Majumdar, on behalf of the Governor of Assam, DCP Meena has been suspended with immediate effect.
