The Uttar Pradesh government, on Sunday, 12 July, announced that it will continue putting the state under lockdown during weekends to stop the spread of COVID-19.
This comes as India recorded 28,637 new cases in 24 hours, according to the health ministry's data on Sunday.
Meanwhile, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan announced late on Saturday that they have tested positive for COVID-19 and have informed all the concerned authorities. Senior Bachchan also said he has been admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati hospital.

At least 18 people at Maharashtra's Raj Bhavan have tested positive for COVID-19 and governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has gone into self-isolation. He will be tested in the coming days. All those who have tested positive worked in close proximity to the governor, reported NDTV.

Uttar Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information) Awanish Awasthi, on Sunday, 12 July, said the lockdown on weekends will continue in the state to stop the spread of COVID-19. UP had imposed a 55-hour-long lockdown starting from 10 PM on 10 July to 5 AM on Monday, 13 July.
In the fresh Unlock guidelines, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said the markets in the state will be allowed to remain open from Monday to Friday and will be sanitized during the weekend. He also ordered to conduct 50,000 tests per day in the state.
