Court to Sentence Rape Convict Mahmood Farooqui on 4 August

The prosecution demanded maximum punishment, saying Farooqui had committed a grave offence.

  • Delhi’s Saket Court has reserved its order for 4 August on the quantum of sentence for Mahmood Farooqui who has been convicted for raping a 35-year-old American scholar.

  • The Delhi Police sought maximum punishment of life imprisonment for Farooqui who is well known for dastangoi art and as the co-director of Bollywood film Peepli Live.

  • A PhD researcher from the US had accused Farooqi of raping her in a rented accommodation at Sukhdev Vihar in Delhi. Farooqui had denied the rape allegations in 2015.
