The number of coronavirus cases in India rose by 34,884 to 10,38,716 on Saturday, 18 July, while the death toll increased by 671 to 26,273.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are now 3,58,692 active cases across the country, while 6,53,750 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that two areas in the capital district of Thiruvananthapuram have community spread of COVID-19. These are Pulluvila in Karumkulam panchayat and the coastal area of Poonthura.

  • Maharashtra on Friday reported 8,308 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 2,92,589

Mumbai Crosses 1 Lakh Total Cases, Maharashtra Over 3 Lakh

Mumbai on Saturday crossed the one lakh mark of total positive COVID-19 cases, while Maharashtra crossed the three lakh mark, as 8,348 new cases were record today.

Two Areas in Thiruvananthapuram Have Community Spread: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that two areas in the capital district of Thiruvananthapuram have community spread of COVID-19. These are Pulluvila in Karumkulam panchayat and the coastal area of Poonthura – the latter having witnessed a super-spread only a few days ago.

“60 percent of COVID-19 cases are due to local transmission. Community spread of coronavirus has been confirmed at two places in Thiruvananthapuram. Everyone should strictly adhere to COVID-19 guidelines to break the chain,” CM Vijayan said, according to ANI.

Tamil Nadu Reports Highest Single-Day Spike

4,807 COVID-19 cases reported have been reported today in Tamil Nadu, in the state’s highest ever single-day spike, of which 1,219 cases are from Chennai. 47,179 persons have been tested, while 3,049 patients discharged. 88 new deaths have also been reported today. This takes the total tally in the state to 1,65,714 cases, 1,13,856 discharged and 2,403 deaths.

1,475 New COVID-19 Cases Reported in Delhi

1,475 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Delhi today, while 1,973 patients have recovered/discharged/migrated. 26 deaths have also been reported in Delhi today. The total number of positive cases in Delhi now rises to 1,21,582 including 1,01,274 recovered/discharged/migrated and 3,597 deaths.

Bengaluru Hospitals Told To Admit Only "Moderately, Severely Ill Patients"

Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru, hospitals have been directed to admit only patients with moderate or severe symptoms. Mild and asymptomatic cases are to be referred to COVID-19 care centres or encouraged to stay in home isolation, the government said Saturday.

In its notification the government said: "moderately and severely ill COVID-19 patients are sometimes unable to get admission... in this context, it would be prudent to admit moderately and severely ill patients, both government and private, and encourage asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients to get admitted in COVID care centres or be in home isolation".

Telangana Frontline COVID-19 Workers to Continue Receiving 10% Incentive: KCR

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday announced that all the frontline healthcare workers including outsourced workers fighting COVID-19 would continue to receive the 10 percent additional pay as incentive, reported The News Minute. Similarly, incentives would be extended for the police and sanitation workers under the municipal and gram panchayats.

Bengaluru’s Shantala Nagar, Jayanagar Wards Reports Most COVID-19 Cases in 10 Days

Bengaluru reported 2,208 new coronavirus cases on Friday, making it the second consecutive day that the city reported over 2,000 patients. Shantala Nagar and Jayanagar are among the 15 wards that have reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the last 10 days, reported The News Minute.

Bengaluru also added 412 new containment zones on Friday, bringing the total number of active containment zones in the city to 6,010 from 5,598 the previous day.

The total number of containment zones reported in the city till date is 7,636.

AAP Leaders Donate Plasma After Recovering From COVID-19

AAP leader Atishi on Saturday donated blood plasma at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Vasant Kunj.

AAP spokesperson Akshay Marathe also donated plasma along with Atishi.

1,986 New COVID-19 Cases in UP in 24 Hours

Uttar Pradesh has reported 1,986 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with the overall death toll standing at 1,108, the state's Principal Health Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad was quoted by ANI as saying on Saturday.

739 New COVID-19 Cases Take Bihar's Tally to 24,967

Bihar has reported 739 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infections in the state to 24,967.

Meanwhile, JD(U) legislator Khalid Anwar on Saturday said that he has tested positive for coronavirus and is under home quarantine in Patna, reported PTI.

591 New COVID-19 Cases in Odisha, Tally Rises to 16,701

Odisha has reported 591 new COVID-19 cases and three fatalities, taking the tally in the state to 16,701 and the death toll to 86.

184 New COVID-19 Cases Take Rajasthan's Tally to 27,973

As many as 184 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths have been reported in Rajasthan, taking the tally in the state to 27,973 and the death toll to 550.
