The number of coronavirus in India crossed the one million-mark on Friday, 17 July, with 34,956 new cases taking the country's tally to 1,003,832 in the biggest one-day spike yet. Meanwhile, the death toll increased by 687 to 25,602.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, there are currently 3,42,473 active cases across the country, while 6,35,756 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

Meanwhile, the US recorded 68,428 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours, setting yet another record, AFP reported on Friday, citing the Johns Hopkins University tally. The country has so far recorded 3.5 million cases, with the death toll over 1,38,000.

  • The Odisha government has announced a complete lockdown in Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack and Jajpur districts, and Rourkela city from 9 pm on Friday to 31 July

3,693 New Cases in Karnataka

At least 3,693 new COVID-19 cases and 115 deaths were reported in Karnataka today, taking total number of cases to 55,115 cases including 20,757 recoveries and 1,147 deaths.

8,308 New Cases in Maharashtra

At least 8,308 new COVID-19 positive cases and 258 deaths have been reported in Maharashtra today. The total number of positive cases have risen to 2,92,589 including 1,60,357 recovered cases, 1,20,480 active cases and 11,452 deaths.

1,849 New Cases in West Bengal

West Bengal reported 1,894 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking total number of cases to 38,011 including 1,049 deaths.

Restrictions on Flights from 6 Cities to Kolkata Extended

The temporary restriction on the arrival of flights to Kolkata Airport from six cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Nagpur and Ahmedabad has been extended upto 31 July, ANI reported.

795 New Cases in Haryana

At least 795 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported in Haryana today, taking the total number of cases to 24,797.
