COVID-19: India Tally at 2.46 L; Delhi Borders to Reopen Tomorrow

The number of coronavirus cases in India jumped to 2,46,628 on Sunday, 7 June, with 9,971 new cases being reported in the last 24 hours in what is the biggest single-day spike. According to the Union Health Ministry data, the death toll in the country stands at 6,929, while 1,19,292 patients have been cured or discharged. There are currently 1,20,406 active cases in the country.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that the borders will open from Monday, a week after he announced that they would be sealed. He also said that Delhi government hospitals and some private hospitals in Delhi will only treat patients from the national capital. However, Central hospitals will remain open for all.

On the opening up of the capital under Unlock 1, Kejriwal said, "All restaurants, malls and places of worship will open in the national capital from tomorrow. Hotels and banquet halls will remain closed.”

48 New COVID-19 Cases in Rajasthan, Tally Rises to 10,385

Rajasthan on Sunday reported 48 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths, taking the tally in the state to 10,385, including 2,545 active cases, and the death toll to 234.

Delhi Borders to Re-Open, Hospitals to Treat Just Residents: CM Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that the borders will open from Monday, a week after he announced that they would be sealed. He also said that government hospitals and some private hospitals in Delhi will only treat patients from the national capital.

“By the end of the month of June, Delhi would need 15,000 beds... Over 90 percent people want Delhi hospitals to treat patients from the national capital during coronavirus pandemic... Delhi hospitals will be available for the people of Delhi only, while Central hospitals will remain open for all... If people from other cities come to Delhi for specific surgeries, they will be treated at private hospitals,” Kejriwal was quoted as saying during a press briefing.

130 New COVID-19 Cases in Andhra Pradesh, Tally Rises to 3,718

As many as 130 new cases of COVID-19 and two deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the state to 3,718, including 1,290 active cases, 75 deaths and 2,353 discharged patients.

COVID-19 Tally in Chhattisgarh Rises to 997

The COVID-19 tally in Chhattisgarh rose to 997 on Sunday with 74 new cases. There are now 734 active cases in the state, reported PTI.

92 New COVID-19 Cases in Assam, Tally Rises to 2,565

As many as 92 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Assam on Sunday, taking the tally in the state to 2,565, including 1,970 active cases, 588 recovered patients and four deaths.

'Shramik Trains Named As a Tribute to Migrants': Amit Shah

"When all arrangements were made, quarantines centres were set up, then only trains were run from 1st May. They were named 'shramik trains' as a tribute to the migrants. Around 1.25 crore migrants have been safely brought to their places by BJP's Modi govt," said Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing a digital rally as per ANI.

'Some People Lost Patience': Amit Shah on Migrants 

"Some people lost patience and started walking. When it came to notice, buses were deployed to bring them to railway stations. 85% of the cost was borne by central government & 15% by state governments," says Home Minister Amit Shah As per ANI.

One New COVID-19 Case in ITBP 

1 new case of COVID-19 has been reported in Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the last 24 hours, reports ANI.

There are total 26 active cases and 186 have recovered till date, ANI cites ITBP.

3,007 Fresh COVID-19 Cases in Maharashtra

3,007 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 91 deaths were recorded in Maharashtra on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 85,975 and death toll to 3,060 as per state's health department.

Hyderabad TV5 journalist Manoj Dies Due to COVID-19

A journalist in Hyderabad passed away on Sunday due to COVID-19, The News Minute reports.

Manoj (33), a reporter with Telugu channel TV5, had tested positive for the coronavirus a few days back and was undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital, where he died.

3,000 Police Personnel Tested Positive for COVID-19

"Around 3,000 police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 and around 30 others have died in Maharashtra," ANI quotes Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh as saying.

"Now, we've decided to give normal duties to personnel with 50-55 age & paid leaves to personnel with over 55 years of age," he added.
