A 19-year old girl committed suicide at her house in Panipat on Sunday, 29 April for allegedly having been stalked repeatedly by a school dropout, for several years.

As reported by The Times of India, the police have booked Siddharth Kumar, the Class 12 dropout in question, following a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.

According to the report, the girl’s mother had found her daughter hanging in her room on Sunday night. The girl’s father was reportedly out of town at Rohtak and her brother was away at work.

Kumar had allegedly been stalking the girl since she was in school, making phone calls to her number at random hours.

In her statement, the mother had told the police that on the night her daughter committed suicide, she had received yet another call from Kumar and was visibly upset about it.

She was very upset after that and had gone to her room.
The mother said in her statement, as reported by The Times of India

She said that when she had gone to call her daughter for dinner that night, she didn’t receive any response. She found the girl hanging on forcing the door open.

While the police are yet to arrest Kumar, they have initiated a probe into the incident, Model Town SHO Vikas Singh told The Times of India.

The girl’s suicide as a result of having been stalked isn’t an isolated case. Earlier in March, a Class 12 student in Delhi had committed suicide, after being stalked and threatened by her neighbour. The girl had even left a suicide note, stating that it was the reason that compelled her to put an end to her life.
