This Christmas, go digital, get lucky!
Narendra Modi will play an unlikely Santa Claus to those who have been ‘good’ and attempted to go cashless after the 8 November demonetisation announcement.
On Christmas day, the government is launching two schemes, The Lucky Grahak Yojana and the Digi-Dhan Vyapari Yojana, to make the prospect of going digital more attractive. For 100 days, a total of 15,000 ‘lucky grahaks’, selected via lucky draw, stand to win Rs 1,000 each, daily. The schemes will cost the government Rs 340 crore.
There will also be a weekly lucky draw for seven winners with a maximum award of Rs 1,00,000. Merchants can compete for 7,000 weekly awards under the Digi Dhan Vyapari Yojana and win Rs 50,000 each.
The deal gets sweeter: the 14 April Mega award can make lucky consumers richer by Rs 1 crore, Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh. All consumers making digital payments between 8 November and 13 April are eligible. Merchants are eligible to participate for awards of Rs 50 lakh, Rs 25 lakh and Rs 5 lakh.
Only digital transactions between Rs 50 and Rs 3,000 will be eligible for the lucky draw.
