Nine children lost their lives and ten were injured when a van taking them to school fell into a deep gorge in Uttarakhand's Tehri Garhwal district early on Tuesday, 6 August.

The accident occurred on the Pratap Nagar-Kangsali-Madan Negi road near Lambgaon. The van was en route to Angels International School.

The children who sustained serious injuries have been taken to the district hospital, Tehri District Magistrate V Shanmugam said.

The children are from Kangsali village and are aged between four to 13 years.

Pilgrim on the Way to Badrinath Dies After Landslide

A pilgrim lost his life when a vehicle in which he was travelling was hit by a boulder after a landslide in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Tuesday.

Eleven people were in the vehicle going to the Badrinath pilgrimage site. It was hit by a boulder which fell from the hillside after a landslide, official sources said.

Three pilgrims have been rescued and efforts are on to extricate the rest, sources added.
