In an alarming incident, the headless body of a three-year-old girl was recovered on Tuesday, 30 July. The girl went missing from Tatanagar Railway Station last week and the accused was identified in CCTV footage and caught.

The torso of the girl was sent for postmortem, and the police suspects the child to have been raped given the injuries on her private parts. Her head is yet to be recovered.

Rinku, the accused, is in police custody. He is the son of a police officer posted in Giridh district.

He is a repeat offender and had been arrested and convicted previously for kidnapping and killing children in Telco and Sakchi areas.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP) Noor Mustafa Ansari said, “Rinku was earlier convicted and sentenced to a two-year jail term for abducting with the intention to kill a seven-year-old child from Jemco-Azadbasti locality on 9 April 2015. He was sentenced to a two-year jail term in March 2018. He came out of jail few weeks ago.”

Child Was Sleeping With Her Mother

On Thursday, the three-year-old was sleeping with her mother at the railway station when she was picked up by Rinku. He walked away casually with the child in his arms.

After going through the CCTV footage, the police arrested him and his associate, Kailash, on Monday.

Rinku told the police that he had handed over the girl to a child trafficking gang.

The police are also probing the possible role of Md Sheikh, who goes by the alias Monu Mandal, who had brought the deceased’s mother to Tatanagar from Purulia.
