Doctors at the Institute of Child Health, Egmore, on Thursday confirmed dengue as the cause for the death of a 12-year-old girl in the hospital on Wednesday. The blood results were received on Thursday. So, two children have succumbed to dengue in the hospital in a week.
According to doctors, Prithika (12) from Mangadu was admitted to the ICH on Tuesday with high fever and multi-organ failure. Doctors took blood samples and sent them for test while the girl died on Wednesday without responding to treatment. It may be noted that a five-year-old girl from Mogappair succumbed to dengue at the ICH on Monday and a nine-month-old boy died of dengue at a private hospital on 18 September.

The CB-CID wing of the Tamil Nadu police arrested KV Udit Surya and his parents on Thursday in connection with a case of impersonation in NEET exams to secure seat in a medical college in Tamil Nadu. The case came to light after the administration of Theni Medical College conducted an internal verification of documents of first-year students based on a tip-off about the fraud.
An impersonator who had written and cleared NEET exam pretending to be Udit Surya was allotted an MBBS seat in Theni Medical College. However, he stopped attending classes after the first 20 days, after which Udit Surya took his place.

Rupa Gurunath, the daughter of former BCCI Chief N Srinivasan has been elected unopposed as the first woman president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) on Wednesday. Her appointment at the 87th Annual General Meeting has raised eyebrows over the family's unwillingness to relinquish control over cricket in the state.
Her father has held the post of TNCA chief since 2002. He was barred from holding any position in the BCCI by the Supreme Court due to his commercial interests in Chennai Super Kings, a team in the Indian Premier League. Moreover, her husband Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested on charges of betting in the Indian Premier League in 2013.

Anna University stoked controversy after the new course regulations for B.Tech Information Technology course introduced a paper on Philosophy in its syllabus, which predominantly features the Upanishads. The outrage on this introduction forced the Vice Chancellor of the university to issue a clarification that the it was an elective subject and not a compulsory one.
The news of the inclusion sparked massive outrage on social media with a majority of the opposition centred around the selection of just Hindu scriptures, with many pointing out that Tamil literature and texts from other religions like Buddhism also had similar valuable lessons.

An eight-year-old boy was killed and his mother and elder sister were injured in the early hours of Thursday after the roof of their house collapsed in Seven Wells area due to rain. It may be recalled that a 42-year-old woman was killed in Mannady after a portion of the wall of her house collapsed following heavy rains a week ago.
Police said Alan (8), a class 2 student, died instantaneously due to grievous injuries he sustained as the roof of the house collapsed even as the family was sleeping. According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday morning on Shanmugarayan Street in Seven wells.
