CBI to File Closure Report in Missing JNU Student Najeeb’s Case

CBI told Delhi HC that even though a probe was conducted, all efforts have failed.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Tuesday, 4 September told the Delhi High Court that it wants to file a closure report in the missing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmed's case, reported ANI.

CBI told the court that the probe has been conducted, covering all aspects, but all efforts have failed. The Delhi HC, on Tuesday, reserved its order on the case.

Ahmed, 27, an MSc First Year student, went missing on 15 October 2016 after an alleged fight with the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad. But the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated student body has denied any involvement.

Ahmed's mother, Fatima Nafees, has sought a status report filed by the CBI and has also demanded a reinvestigation in the matter.

I am ashamed and heartbroken that our country’s supposedly finest agency has decided to wash its hands off the case. The CBI admits to me that my son was assaulted, but at court claimed that nothing had happened to my son. I am shocked at such blatant lies.

In May this year, a year after the case was handed over to CBI, the probe agency had told the Delhi High Court that despite various attempts including "digital footprinting," no evidence was found in the case.
