Protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), veteran filmmaker Jahnu Barua withdrew his film Bhoga Khirikee (Broken Window) from the Assam State Film Awards which is likely to take place in the last week of December.

According to reports, expressing angst against the contentious Bill, the Padma Bhushan awardee said that he is hurt and disturbed with whatever has happened so far.

The movie was released in October 2018 and is produced by Bollywood bigwig Priyanka Chopra and former state tourism ambassador.

The 8th Assam State Film Awards and Film Festival 2019 is scheduled to take place on 26 and 27 December in Guwahati.

The contentious Bill was passed a little past midnight in the Lok Sabha on Monday, 9 December, with 311 'ayes' and 80 'noes'. The Bill is likely to be tabled in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, as the Winter Session of Parliament gets over on 13 December.

CAB seeks to provide citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis and Christians who faced religious persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
