Delhi-NCR witnessed two deadly collapses in the last 24 hours, claiming four lives in total. In Delhi’s Dwarka, the roof of a house collapsed on Monday, 23 July, killing a couple and injuring their three kids, PTI reported.
Earlier, a five-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Akash Nagar area in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Sunday, 22 July, killing two people and injuring at least eight others. The rescue operations came to an end on 23 July, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) said.

A five-storey under-construction building collapsed in Missal Gadi in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Sunday, 22 July, killing at least one person and injuring some others, officials told PTI.
Rita Maheshwari, Ghaziabad District Magistrate said there were issues with the quality of the building.
“Prima facie, there seems to be issues with quality of the building. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Seven people have been rescued and sent to hospital,” Ritu Maheshwari, Ghaziabad District Magistrate told ANI.
"Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the district magistrate and the senior superintendent of police of Ghaziabad to visit the site of building collapse and take immediate action for rescue, along with NDRF personnel," an Uttar Pradesh government spokesperson said in Lucknow.
Adityanath also asked the district authorities to register an FIR and take action against the guilty.
Uttar Pradesh Inspector General, Law and Order said that the police will investigate who was responsible for the collapse.
“As soon as we got info police was the first responder, rescue is being done on war footing. We have rescued seven people out of whom one died and six are in hospital. Once rescue ops are completed we will investigate who are responsible for it,” he said.
Sanjay Kumar, DG, NDRF said that three more people are feared trapped in the rubble.
“Four teams are working on the collapse site, it's a congested area but we have portable equipment which helped us. Possibilities are that three more people are trapped. Our aim is to complete the rescue soon and if it stretches till night we're prepared for that too,” said Kumar.
Labourers working at the building that collapsed in Ghaziabad told ANI that they were working despite there being a crack in one of the columns.
“A crack appeared in the column of the building this morning. Builder told us to fill the cracks with cement and forced us to continue. We were working on the upper floor, the column must have collapsed in the basement,” said a victim.
Local MP and Minister of State, VK Singh, said that an inquiry has been ordered into the matter and officials have been directed to vacate illegal buildings.
“Inquiry ordered. Directed administration to take strict action against those responsible. Seven people were rescued, one of them succumbed to injuries. Rescue operations are on. We've directed administration to vacate illegal buildings and demolish them if need be,” said Singh.

He further said that the land in question belonged to a builder, as per the relevant documents, and that the police have identified four people and are in the process of taking them into custody.
Earlier, district magistrate Ritu Maheshwari also said that an FIR will be registered and that the landowner and the builder will be booked under the National Security Act.
One more body was recovered and two more persons were rescued from the site where a building collapsed in Ghaziabad's Missal Gadi on Sunday. Rescue operations are underway.
The roof of a house in Delhi's Dwarka area that had weakened over time with seepage collapsed in the early hours of 23 July morning, killing a couple and injuring their three children, the police told PTI.
The deceased have been identified as Sunil and his wife Rachna, both 40 years. Their kids: Vaibhav (19), Gulshan (16) and Gungun (9) have been admitted to the hospital.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), on 23 July, completed the rescue operations in the five-storey building that had collapsed in Ghaziabad. Two persons were reported dead due to the collapse and the eight injured have been rescued. The officials also announced that four supervisors of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) were suspended.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna told PTI that an FIR was lodged against the errant builders Kishan Pal Tomar and Mukesh Singh, along with Dinesh Kumar, the owner of the land on which the illegal construction was going on.
