A villager who was critically injured in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday, 27 April, died at a hospital on Sunday in neighbouring Telangana, a police official told PTI.

Earlier, on Saturday, two police personnel were killed as Naxals opened fire at them near Tongguda camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pamed area, located around 500 km from the state capital Raipur.

Constable Arvind Minj and assistant constable Sukku Hapka, belonging to District Police Force, along with a villager were returning to Tongguda from Tippapuram on a motorcycle when they were attacked.

A 'small action team' (typically comprising four-five rebels) of Naxals opened fire on them, leaving constable Minj and assistant constable Habka dead on the spot and the villager injured.

Locals took the injured villager to Cherla in neighbouring Telangana for treatment, he said, adding that security forces have been rushed to the spot.

A search operation was underway in the area to track down the attackers, the official told PTI.
