Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday, 24 June, commended Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman and said he should be awarded at the Lok Sabha, for his bravery, reported ANI.

That's not all. The Congress leader praised Abhinandan's moustache and said, “His moustache should be made the national moustache.”

On 27 February 2019, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 was shot down in Pakistani territory after a dogfight. He was part of a sortie that had to intercept Pakistani aircraft which had entered Indian territory.

He landed near the village of Horran, where he was captured by Pakistani authorities. He was returned to India two days later.

The Congress leader jeered at Central government for their failure to indict Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, whom they had called “thieves”, for the 2G and coal allocation scams.

On 18 June, the Congress named Chowdhury, who is a West Bengal MP, its Leader in the Lok Sabha.
