A woman in China killed herself and her two children, after her husband allegedly staged his own death for an insurance payout, reported BBC.

The man had not revealed his plan to his wife.

According to BBC, a local radio broadcasted that in early September the man – a Mr. He – had purchased an insurance plan worth one million yuan. His wife was his beneficiary, even though she had no knowledge of the insurance plan.

On 19 September, he borrowed a vehicle and pretended to get killed in a car crash.

Three weeks later, according to BBC, the wife posted her suicide note on WeChat and drowned her four-year-old son, three-year-old daughter and herself in a pond near her house.

The man turned himself in to the police after hearing about his wife and children's death. According to BBC, it was later discovered that the man had more than 100,000 yuan as loans. He had also earlier posted a video online crying and saying that he had borrowed money for the treatment of his epileptic daughter.
