Uranium Reserves Discovered in Srisailam Forests of Andhra Pradesh
Sources say that the uranium discovered is of superior quality and will give boost to nuclear power plants in India.
A joint research team of the Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) and Osmania University has discovered uranium reserves in the Srisailam forests in Andhra Pradesh, using latest paraphernalia for the detection of the radioactive element.
The team carried out research in a widely spread area around the Srisailam sub-basin of Kadapa super basin. According to sources, the uranium discovered is of superior quality and will definitely give a significant boost to nuclear power plants in the country.
However, this is not the first discovery of uranium reserves by AMD. There have been other such discoveries in some districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The current discovery has only added to India’s nuclear fuel security.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together act as a hub for the nation’s uranium reserves accounting for at least 25 percent of it.
