Supreme Court Suspends J&K Beef Ban for Two Months
The apex court directs the J&K High Court to set up a 3-judge bench to resolve issue.
The Supreme Court, on Monday, suspended the ban on beef in Jammu and Kashmir for two months.
The apex court has also directed the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir, Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar, to set up a three-judge bench to resolve the conflicting decisions given by two benches earlier.
Bovine slaughter and possession of beef in Kashmir is a punishable offence under the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), 1932.
The J&K High Court had ordered strict implementation of the law on September 10. This led to protests in the state. The opposition party created a ruckus in the State Assembly on Monday to protest the ban on beef.
