Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted his reaction on Bharti’s disappearing act. He said that the Aam Aadmi Party MLA should surrender and even calls him an ‘embarrassment for the party and his family’.

The tweet came a day after the Delhi High Court rejected Bharti’s anticipatory bail plea in connection with a domestic violence case filed by his estranged wife, Lipika Mitra, who said she was grateful for the Chief Minister’s statement.

Somnath Bharti was appointed as Delhi’s Law Minister during Kejriwal’s first stint as the Chief Minister of the state. This time, however, he was not given a portfolio.

Earlier this year, Somnath Bharti had tweeted that the decision to not take up any government position was his own, to which the Delhi CM had replied that he was proud of Bharti.

During his brief tenure as the Law Minister of Delhi, Somnath Bharti had carried out a controversial midnight raid on the Nigerian residents of Delhi’s Khirki Extension. Although it was condemned by most political parties, the Aam Aadmi Party stood by its minister. Kejriwal in fact, had publicly congratulated him when the Delhi High Court set aside an order of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) holding Bharti guilty of racial prejudice and unlawful acts.
